Job Purpose

Engineers at National Grid play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our electric transmission and distribution systems. They also play a key role in providing service to our customers.  Engineer designers assist with and develop the designs for electric distribution projects. These designs are based on customer requests, inquiries, complaints, etc. regarding the establishment and maintenance of electrical service.  Designs also include overhead and underground electric facilities, distribution system maintenance, repair, and improvement, public works, and routine program work.

Key Accountabilities Perform work independently as required, taking responsibility for work and supporting it from start to finish. Meeting job requirements and deadlines. Including large and complex projects for both overhead and underground applications. Coordinate with the Design Supervisor and be cognizant of design work and job statuses. Apply acquired knowledge of National Grid construction standards, Electrical Service Information and Requirements, and portions of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code to construction applications. Read and interpret one-line diagrams, site plans and load information. Perform critical analysis of electrical distribution design problems. Be proficient in the current expanded Work Management Systems required to produce and progress Design Packages. Effectively communicate with external customers, municipal and regulatory representatives, and contractors on a regular basis. Advise customers in the proper application of their electric service. Perform analysis of electrical distribution design problems. Interact with internal departments and company employees to ensure an efficient overall process. Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization, both throughout the department and project teams. Will also be expected to respond to emergency call out and work extended and planned hours when major company emergencies occur. Emergency roles could include internal Trouble/Dispatch room assignments or external field support roles. Qualifications An Associates of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science from an accredited engineering or technological school is required. Ability to follow prescribed standards and procedures. Must have and retain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license which does not restrict hours of operation. Must be able to perform activities where it is expected that 25 pounds could be lifted, pushed, pulled or carried many times throughout the day. Must be able to work within confined areas at times and in inclement weather and temperature extremes. Willingness to travel for meetings, training, and conferences, including potential extended hours for emergencies or system events. More Information

Salary: $90,000 - $106,000
