The Designer II is responsible for providing support and maintenance of current product design and documentation. The position reviews bom’s, designs, components and subsystems and collaborates with engineers to create models, drawings, sub-assemblies and specifications in support of assigned design work. The Designer II participates in the product definition from scope of work to detailed specification, in DFMEA activities and performs analysis, tolerance stacks, basic stress and strain as well as fit and form checks of components to ensure proper function and appropriate definition is provided.
The Designer II reports to an Engineering Supervisor and/or Manager and requires moderate supervision.
Basic Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in design or equivalent work experience
3 years of new product design for engine/motor driven machinery, equipment or powered tools
3 years of AutoCAD system use
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of generator or engine design work solving complex problems requiring analytical and mechanical skills
3 years’ experience in 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting tools, ideally in CREO and/or SolidWorks
2 years’ experience using Windchill PLM, SAP or comparably complex ERP systems and data management tools
Experience in large CAD assembly management
Knowledge of material specs and use including design considerations with a variety of materials (e.g. Sheet metal, plastics, castings);
Basic understanding of drafting standards as well as GD&T aligned to ASME Y14.5 concepts and application
Basic understanding of tolerance stack, stress, strain and form, fit, and function understanding with extensive application capabilities
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes including complex parts and assembly as well as manufacturability considerations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares and maintains detailed design drawings, schematics, specifications, kits, BOMs and/or instructions for field kits using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software
Works closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies, or to prepare drawings of unusual and more advanced designs and sub-assemblies, which require a higher degree of precision using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) equipment. Identifies solutions and opportunities
Creates, modifies and controls a variety of documentation (models and drawings) from engineers' and senior staff's sketches, plans, written and verbal instructions
Develops and maintains drafting standards and procedures
Occasional vendor contact
Other duties as assigned
Act as SAP Super User within functional area as assigned
Provide support and maintenance of current product designs
Reviewing all production unit bill of materials prior to the unit’s scheduled build on production floor.
