Desktop Engineer II
TEKsystems
Description
Our customer who's a leader in their industry is in need of a Desktop Support Technician II to join their team on a 6 month contract to hire basis. Qualified candidates will have 2-3 years of recent experience working in an enterprise environment where they worked as a Desktop Support Technician. More specifically, they will have experience with the end to end process of PC deployments, which includes taking machines from start to end of life cycle. Unboxing, setting up, imaging, testing and deploying.
The manager said they like to give a sense of direction and then someone works within that. They don't typically give step by step directions. They will expect this person to do their due diligence with going to seek out the information that they need. Someone who thinks on their feet, has excellent customer service experience and does not sound like a robot. Someone with a voice and is comfortable voicing their thoughts. They give them the tools and the steps, but they will have the freedom to work within that. As a team, they have several projects they are working on all year. They won’t typically be working alone, so most of the time they will be working with 2-3 other techs. They are taking machines from start to end of life cycle.
Setting up images, TDR, testing and deploying. They are definitely client facing, so this person needs to be cognizant of that. This has to be someone with strong customer service mindset. They are focused on the creation, a lot of times they have to work with other IT departments.
They do mostly windows, don’t really have macs in their environment. Their VM environment has zero clients. They are moving towards thin clients. They use a web interface to move machines within an AD environment. They have their own policies and that helps them to work with the exact client.. Although they’re not exactly “owners”, they do still have some responsibility. There will be some on-call, at some point. Rotation – probably every 2-3 months. There’s a possibility of working before or after normal hours.
They also do machine imaging through manage engine, which helps them deploy PC images. They also deploy a lot of programs from there, too. They are also in control of windows updates, which happens monthly. They are the only people that do any kind of group policy. The manager is looking to add a couple people under his group policy team.
