Desktop Support Technician - IT Professional II

As a Desktop Support Technician, you will be responsible for providing second-level and onsite technical support to Sarasota County employees including traveling to different County facilities. Job responsibilities can include troubleshooting computer hardware and software, network, and infrastructure issues while also providing computer refresh, maintenance, and software installations.

About the Position

In this role, you will be responsible for...

Documenting, prepping, and deploying replacement computers and peripherals for annual PC refresh.

Troubleshooting and resolving Tier 2 computer hardware and software, network and infrastructure issues, and service requests. This may include using a county vehicle to travel between County locations and staff.

Assisting in research, documentation, and updating the current Sarasota County technical knowledge base, and related support procedures.

Coordinating and/or participating in EIT projects to implement support services to our division and providing initial training to other Desktop Support personnel.

Collaborating with other IT personnel on tasks outside their scope of knowledge or expertise.

Escalating high-priority issues to subject matter experts and leadership teams.

Increasing job knowledge through training opportunities and self-study.

Performing other duties as assigned by EIT Management. 

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This position is involved in on-call 24/7/365 technical support.

Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.

This position is also involved in the onsite support of the Emergency Operations Center during County-wide emergency activations.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of a two (2) year degree -AND- two (2) years experience working as a desktop support technician or related role.

-OR- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Public Administration, Management, Business, Engineering, Communications, Project Management, or other relevant field with some related experience.

-OR- Experience may substitute for formal education at the discretion of management.

Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Microsoft 365 Certified - Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or equivalent CompTIA A+ Certified.

Proficient in Windows operating systems and Office 365 applications and admin support.

Windows Domain environment, Active Directory, and networking experience are a plus.

Experience with Dell computers, monitors, and peripherals (hardware & software).

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

CJIS Clearance: The successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check(s) as a part of the hiring process. 

Physical Demands: Employees in this role must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs with a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessive poundage of 50 plus pounds.

Starting Pay Range: $26.99 - 34.50, based on experience.
