**Job Responsibilities:**
+ Interprets class lectures with modest pace and concrete content. Provides Sign Language to spoken English interpretation for clients who use slow-paced English signs.
+ Assess language needs of all consumers and adjust interpreting where possible to ensure accurate interpretation.
+ Maintain a healthy work practice through application of biomechanic principles. Arrange for a biomechanic assessment.
+ Confer with consumers, preview available materials, and research additional resources to prepare for assignments.
+ Maintain effective communication with consumers, operations staff, and colleagues regarding the provision of service. Confirm all assignments to consumers.
+ Develop and implement a professional development plan. Participate in structured in service training. Will have an assigned mentor.
+ Participate in Apprentice colloquium, Core Team, and DAS staff meetings.

**Job Summary:**
The Interpreting Apprentice Program is designed to be a bridge from school to work for interpreters with 6 months to 3 years of experience. We aim to provide a supportive environment for new interpreters to develop their professional practice as they are starting their careers. Developing Interpreters are assigned to work with mentors who will assist them in pursuit of their professional development goals, provide resources and strategies to help improve their work product and connect them with resources within DAS and RIT/NTID as needed.
Developing Interpreters are assigned to interpret 20 hours of assignments per week, primarily in academic settings. The rest of their time will be dedicated to working with a mentor and engaging in professional development activities. Developing Interpreters are assigned onto one of five interpreting teams, but will work across disciplines.
_This position is for the Academic Year from August through May._
