Overview
The Development Associate is responsible for assisting all donor relations activities and providing support for key fundraising efforts and donor community building. This position works closely with the Community Relations and Development Department and Kroc Center leadership to achieve major giving goals and stewardship of donors. The Development Associate works collaboratively with the overall CRD department.
Responsibilities
+ Perform administrative duties including Advisory Board correspondence and minutes, processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, sorting of mail by priority, maintaining organized files and systems, receiving and making phone calls, developing and continually updating databases, processing and tracking invoices promptly, copying and other duties as assigned.
+ Write and/or assist in writing grant proposals and applications according to the format required, under the direction.
+ Write and/or assist in writing grant reports to comply with grant requirements; edit draft proposals for accuracy and completeness.
+ Write thank you letters for grants received to foundations.
+ Conduct research for statistical data, foundation and government funding opportunities, and other critical data as identified by the Director.
+ Coordinate with appropriate professional staff in the department and program staff in the field to receive information and/or sources of material for the submission of proposals and reports.
+ Contact foundations and funding agencies as assigned, obtain information, answer questions and promote Salvation Army programs and services with professionalism and efficiency.
+ Coordinate and monitor funding opportunities and timelines for letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports.
+ Coordinate grant application materials and ensure timely submission to funding agencies or foundations by submission deadlines.
+ Follow-up on a timely basis to communicate with foundation staff as needed.
+ Assist in reviewing program revenues and expenditures to ensure proper expenditures are made for grant projects.
+ Maintain donor records and files for Foundation and Government Relations within Insight, in keeping with established department standards and procedures. Duties will include logging the status of proposals and reports, logging donors incoming contributions, updating donor records and acknowledging gifts, sending thank you letters and receipts, tracking total gift-giving, and reporting the status of Foundation & Government Relations activities to appropriate supervisors.

+ Ability to work independently and with good initiative and judgment, under the direction of DFGR and the Director of Development.
+ Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
+ Excellent communication, math, and writing skills.
+ Must be well-organized with an ability to prioritize and complete assignments within a given timeframe.
+ Accuracy and attention to detail.
+ Knowledge of conducting research and preparing data; internet research and database research skills.
+ Computer proficient, with strong competence and experience with Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; comfortable with online proposal development and submissions.
+ Pre-employment skills assessment is required; writing samples are required (preferably proposal writing).
+ Must be a detail-oriented, logical thinker, who is a motivated self-starter and able to work independently on assigned tasks.
+ Valid Driver's License and able to obtain insurance clearances as determined by The Salvation Army's insurance Company.
Education:
+ Bachelor s Degree, with 2-3 years of strong and relevant writing experience and proven ability.
+ Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
Knowledge/Experience:
+ Exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
+ Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
+ Keeps calm in emergency or confrontation situations.
+ Adhere to and ensure adherence to all The Salvation Army Kroc Corps Community Center policies and procedures as stated in manuals and all subsequent training and meetings.
+ Ability to meet program goals as outlined in the Kroc Center Staff Handbook.
+ Be reliable and dependable.

+ Work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing/planning needs.
