Primary Health Care (PHC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Bery Engebretsen in Des Moines, IA. Our mission has remained unchanged since that time, to provide healthcare and supportive services to all, regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay.
Based on the needs of the communities we serve, PHC offers a spectrum of medical and dental services including family practice, behavioral health, HIV care and services, and pharmacy. PHC’s Homeless Support Services is the entry point for serving people experiencing homelessness in Polk County. Enabling services are available to help patients with benefits enrollment, case management, transportation, translation, and patient education. We currently have locations in Ames, Des Moines, & Marshalltown.
As a Development Manager you will generate revenue by prospecting and securing corporate, foundation, and individual donations. Achieve revenue goals by building relationships with corporate partners and donors, developing a donor stewardship program and establishing an annual giving campaign. Actively engages in events where opportunities exist to strengthen PHC’s visibility to funders. Assists with grant identification, research, writing and tracking support.

What You Will Do
+ Manages all fundraising activities, including donor identification, cultivation, engagement, giving and recognition.
+ Planning and execution of annual giving campaign as well other fundraising events and opportunities.
+ Develop pipeline of potential major gift donors from individuals, corporations, and foundations including estate and planned giving.
+ Develops network of community relationships to identify and pursue resources.
+ Researches private and public grant opportunities, excluding HRSA grant funding. Coordinates with internal stakeholders to complete grant applications, manage documents and deadlines as appropriate. Assists subject matter experts with grant writing and editing.
+ Coordinates resource development such as newsletter articles, blog posts, direct mails, and visibility at corporate/community events.
+ Utilizes a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to track donations, record contact progress and goals, and assure timely donor recognition.
+ Manages and promotes volunteer opportunities, including identification and growth of individual and corporate VTO program engagement.
+ Utilize data and other resources to effectively plan fundraising strategy for individual and corporate donors.
+ Participates in professional organizations; participates in educational activities to stay current with trends in development strategy.
+ Prepare clear, detailed written analyses and reports for a variety of audiences.
+ Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of PHC’s Mission Statement in performing all aspects of this position.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications You Need to Bring
Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, marketing, communications or related field.
+ Minimum two years successful development experience in nonprofit fundraising or comparable direct sales experience.
+ Ability to effectively plan, organize, execute, and communicate goals and objectives.
+ Knowledge of the population and demographics of the community.
+ Strong written and oral communication skills and experience in working with diverse clientele and organizations.
+ Networking, team building, and collaborative skills are necessary.
+ A willingness to work flexible hours with minimal supervision is expected. Some evenings and weekends required.
+ Ability to work with and within the community with volunteers, community and corporate leaders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
+ Previous work experience in a community health center.
+ Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $57,200 - $71,500 annually. Candidates with extensive work experience related to this position may be considered for additional compensation up to the pay grade maximum of $85,800 annually.
