Caterpillar is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Foundry Engineer / Technologist to join our team and perform casting validation, technical reporting, failure analysis, and foundry assessments. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of foundry technology & processes, hands-on problem-solving skills, with experience in metallurgical laboratory operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Casting Validation and Technical Reporting:**
+ Conduct comprehensive casting validation to ensure they meet specified quality standards and customer requirements, prepare detailed technical reports, including failure analysis reports, foundry assessment reports, and process improvement recommendations.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and compliance with industry standards.
**Foundry Assessment and Problem Solving:**
+ Assess the process of iron and steel foundries, identifying areas for improvement and providing expert guidance.
+ Foundry Process Expertise: Demonstrate a deep understanding of various foundry processes, including melting, pouring, solidification, sand system, core and mold processes and heat treatment.
+ Problem-Solving: Utilize analytical skills and hands-on experience to effectively troubleshoot casting issues and implement solutions. Conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
**Metallurgical Laboratory Operations & Safety:**
+ Deep understanding of Quality Management standards specifically ISO / IEC 17025:2017, ensuring compliance with quality management standards.
+ Oversee the day-to-day operations of the metallurgical laboratory and NDE techniques, ensuring accurate and efficient testing procedures. Train and mentor laboratory engineers and technicians.
+ Capital Equipment Procurement: Coordinate the procurement of capital machines, including finalizing technical specifications and aligning with customer needs.
+ Manage laboratory equipment and instrumentation, including calibration and maintenance.
+ Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
+ Promote a strong safety culture within the organization, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and practices
**Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or a related field (Foundry Technology) with 15 – 20 years of experience. Master’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.
+ Certification as an internal auditor for ISO / IEC 17025:2017 standard and related experience in accredited laboratory.
+ ASNT NDT Level II in RT, UT, PT, MT
**Desired Skills:**
+ Proven experience in casting validation, failure analysis, and foundry assessment
+ Strong understanding of foundry processes, metallurgy, materials science, industry standards and regulations, statistical process control (SPC) and quality management systems.
+ Proficiency in metallurgical laboratory techniques and equipment.
+ Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
