Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. **Role Definition:** As a **Development & Research Senior Engineer** , you will directly contribute to the concept, development, **design of systems** , and **configurations** for hydraulic excavator products and processes, including aftermarket support. You will be involved in projects such as New Product Introduction (NPI), New Source Introduction (NSI), New Market Introduction (NMI), and Annual Product Update (APU) in India, and manage the required engineering work to support these projects. This role will also be responsible for engineering maintenance work to support EXD production in CIPL, cost reduction activities, and continuous product improvement in the field to provide high-quality and competitive products for our customers. Additionally, you will be expected to investigate our customers in the field to understand their needs, expectations, and applications to develop competitive products in India. You need to have deep collaboration with the global engineering team in Japan and China, product groups, operations, purchasing, and other stakeholders to support EXD products. **This position will be responsible for :** + Be accountable and participate in the design and development of complex engineering projects related to machine development, ensuring products provide superior customer value compared to the competition in terms of cost, features, performance, durability, quality, manufacturing, velocity, and serviceability. + Evaluate new products and competitive products and perform product design. + Contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, mentor and coach team members, and broaden professional network. + Communicate the technology of product applications as well as competitive products with customers, team members, suppliers, and other stakeholders to meet their needs. + Develop low-cost solutions for complex technical engineering problems and be accountable for machine-level cost reduction. + Research and develop design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of new products and components. + Guide the evolution of the technical design, technical project planning, performance analysis, and development testing. Participate in supplier CPPD for component development and work with the procurement team to manage parts cost. + Continuously improve products in the field to provide high-quality and competitive products for our customers and solve internal quality issues related to engineering for smooth operation of the assembly line. + Monitor, explore, and test new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities **Degree:** + Requires an Engineering degree or equivalent experience. **Skill Description** **Project Management:** + Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects. + Ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. + Under guidance, plans and estimates design projects **Effective Communications** : + Superior skills of communication and collaboration + Strong ability to work closely with Design/Purchasing/Suppliers/Facility/Market team to generate cost-performance opportunities and put it on future machine development/NPI. + Experience with managing, fostering, and maintaining positive internal and external relationships. + Must demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus, and achieving compromise. **Technical Skills:** + Deep technical experience and knowledge of hydraulic Excavator machine or components Level, layout performance, configuration, matching and calculations. + Knowledge and experience of new product introduction ( NPI ). + Knowledge and experience of engineering maintenance work. + Be Familiar with national standards of excavator in India market **Troubleshooting Technical Problems** : + Could anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in design, manufacturing and testing areas. + Align with the product strategy, understanding complex technical problems and demonstrating the ability to develop creative solutions. **Decision Making and Critical Thinking** : + Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas. + Participates in documenting data, ideas, players, stakeholders, and processes. + Recognizes, clarifies, and prioritizes concerns. + Assists in assessing risks, benefits and consideration of alternatives **Additional Info** : + **Location** : Thiruvallur-RIOP CIPL Plant + **Required Travel** : Up to 20% domestic and international travel is required + ISE assignments are **not** available. **Posting Dates:** February 10, 2025 - February 21, 2025 Caterpillar is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EEO).
