Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
The successful candidate will be responsible for development of new extrusion and products related to optical cables. Specific knowledge and experience in extrusion, materials, testing and/or connectivity solutions along with capabilities in computer aided design would be helpful, although not required. Development Technician is expected to be focused on advancing solutions for process and product cable innovations by collaborating with development engineers to execute experiments and learning cycles that gain fundamental understanding, mitigate risks and define capability that ultimately deliver solutions designed for manufacturing while providing customer value.

Day to Day Tasks:
Participate in project teams, developing new products and processes to support project deliverable and timeline execution. Collaborate with engineers to design and develop new processes, technologies, and/or test methods for cable. Carry out experimental plans by setting up equipment (such as various types of measurement systems and mechanical apparatus), performing experimentation, collecting and organizing test data, and providing test reports or other applicable means to document observations and results. Work with internal and external subject matter experts to identify key processing technologies and determine feasibility and capabilities. Provide project support to evaluate process concepts through configuration and modification of lab or plant-based equipment. Work with engineers to evaluate manufacturability of proposed solutions and support initial implementation of new process technologies. Solve problems and improve processes based on fundamental understanding. Support structured problem-solving methods such as MEE, KT, Designed Experimentation, and Six Sigma. Capture new ideas for possible patent submission. Develop draft procedures and documentation for processes and equipment. Maintain and improve a safe work environment. Minimum Requirements: Associates Degree in a technical discipline with 5+ years manufacturing experience. OR 7+ years’ manufacturing experience. Hands-on extrusion or UV processing experience.
Desired Skills:
Experience in testing fiber optic cables. Experience in computer aided design to create tooling, parts, products or manufacturing processes. Experience running ribbon cable and flame retardant cable processing equipment. Capable of performing complex data analysis using MS excel (SPC), or statistical software such as JMP or Minitab. Experience in manufacturing or field installation environment. Experienced in designing experiments and writing test plans. Excellent project management skills (planning, resource management, conflict resolution, able to meet deadlines). PLC programming skills with experience with electrical controls and measurement systems. Fluent in foreign languages: Spanish, German, and/or Polish.

The range for this position is $55,109.00 - $75,775.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
