Description of Job About the Work Unit The mission of the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is to serve and safeguard the people and protect the property, resources, environment, and quality of life in Colorado. The Division achieves this mission and vision through its four (4) Sections: Center of Excellence, Fire and Life Safety, Professional Qualifications and Training, and Wildland Fire Management. About the Job The Air Tanker Manager position exists to administer the Large Air Tanker (LAT) and Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) contracts in the field, and manage the Air Tanker operations according to the established DFPC and Interagency guidelines. Key Responsibilities: Wildland Fire Suppression - Air Tanker Operations While providing for their individual safety, the employee works as a lead during fire suppression and incident response in support of Air Tanker Operations. This position serves as a Fixed Wing Parking Tender (FWPT), Ramp Manager trainee (RAMP(t)), and/or SEAT Manager trainee (SEMG(t)) on incident or pre-positioning assignments. Duties will include, but not limited to: + Assists in air tanker operations in support of fire suppression, wildland urban interface situations, and other management projects. + Provides aerial and ground support in the suppression of wildland fires. + Coordinates with supervisor and crew regarding aircraft movement and assigned area + Serves as a Fixed Wing Parking Tender (FWPT), Ramp Manager trainee (RAMP), and/or SEAT Manager trainee (SEMG) on incident or pre-positioning assignments + Establishes and maintains radio contact with ramp personnel + Assists with selecting, prepping, mixing, and testing aerial retardant and suppression products for loading on air tankers. Documents all information provided to the pilot. + Ensures equipment is in good working condition, prepares equipment for off season. + Incident response may require travel to activated Air Tanker Bases to support fires, severity assignments, and pre-position assignments throughout Colorado and across the nation. + Incident response may require crews to be assigned to an air tanker base for two weeks or longer. + Incident response may require working long hours (up to 16 hours per day) in outdoor settings and performing strenuous manual labor under extreme environmental conditions. + Work schedules will be expected to be flexible and modified at times to fit the business need based on fire conditions. Aircraft Management / Contract Administration Assists with adherence to contract specifications, safety requirements, and fiscal accountability. + Obtains and reviews any agreements that are in place for a facility prior to operations, and provides all members of the operation with a complete briefing on the contents of the agreement + Following provided guidance, determines the type of contract and appropriate incident code that the aircraft was ordered under and ensures compliance with contractual specifications. + Completes required administrative tasks, payment documents, and operational forms as required and ensures that the contractor completes records and reports as required. + Conducts a pre-use walk around inspection and completes inspection forms of the aircraft and ground support equipment. Reviews both the pilot qualification card and the aircraft data card to ensure the adherence to the specifications outlined in the contract. + Coordinates with local airport authorities regarding any special takeoff, ramp, or landing requirements. + Ensures the cleanliness of the ramp area. + Performs as liaison between contractor, airport, other state and federal land management agencies, and DFPC.
