**Overview** **Diagnostic Radiology Technologist (Mammography) (GS-0647-8) - Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA** Downtown San Diego is located on San Diego Bay. Balboa Park encompasses several mesas and canyons to the northeast, surrounded by older, dense urban communities including Hillcrest and North Park. To the east and southeast lie City Heights, the College Area, and Southeast San Diego. To the north lies Mission Valley and Interstate 8. For more information, please visit the following link: https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/benefits/ **Responsibilities** + Independently perform a complex and diverse array of screening and diagnostic mammography examinations. + Management of patient schedules for patient arrivals, proper "arriving", interviewing and "departing" of both male and female patients. + Assist the Radiologist(s) and other Health Care Providers needle localizations, breast ultrasound studies and other related breast health examinations. + Provide expert advice in mammographic imaging to enhance patient evaluation and care. + Collecting, filing and maintaining documentation related to the performance of mammograms and resulting studies. + Research pertinent patient histories and act as liaison with other healthcare facilities in order to collect information and records from prior examinations. Performs other duties as assigned. **Conditions of Employment:** + Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. + This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. + This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required. + This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so. + Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements. + This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion. + This position does not require a Mammography Technician Certification but is highly desired. **Qualifications** ****US Citizenship required** **Basic Requirement for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Mammography):** **Radiology Certification:** Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. **(Note: You must attach a copy of your radiology certification and transcripts.)** (1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a Doctor of Medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency. (3) Assist the Radiologist(s) and other Health Care Providers needle localizations, ultrasound and stereotactic guided biopsies. **In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:** **Specialized Experience:** One year of specialized experience which includes performing radiographic procedures such as setting up x-ray equipment, reviewing images for quality, or assisting with performing breast biopsies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). **OR** **Education:** One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology, Radiography, Radiologic Technology and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) **OR** Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) **Education** **FOREIGN EDUCATION:** If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
