Overview GENERAL DESCRIPTION Provides technical and specialized skills in the operation of ultrasound procedures on Cherokee Nation patients. Duties and responsibilities are conducted in a manner that effectively supports efficient patient services. Ensures a safe environment for patients and peers. Practices ultrasound safety using "as low as (is) reasonably achievable" (ALARA) concepts. Performs procedures as prescribed by Cherokee Nation providers. Communicates and works with the radiologist, physicists, clinicians, nursing staff, and other patient care providers to ensure high-quality diagnostic procedures are performed only within the boundaries of competence, based on documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonograph program or college. or If pursuing certification through ARRT post-primary pathway must be registered with ARRT in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine Technology (registration through NMTCB is also accepted), Radiation Therapy, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (registration through ARDMS is also accepted). Must provide proof of application for Sonography certification. or If pursuing certification through ARDMS certification must hold one of the following Active certifications: ONLY Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or ONLY Sonography, Vascular Sonography or Breast Sonography through American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), or Diploma of Medical Ultrasonograpy (DMU) through Australian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM). Must provide proof of application for Sonography certification. If ARRT, beginning on January 1, 2015, all candidates for primary pathway certification must have earned an academic degree before becoming certified. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must possess Sonography Technologist licensure/registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) or be registry eligible within one year of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire and maintained throughout employment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must possess demonstrated competency in all sonographic modes (e.g. A-mode, M-mode, B-scan, real-time Duplex Doppler scan with or without color, endovaginal/endorectal scan). Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for childcare.
