Job Description:

Assists with post-mortem examinations and is responsible for related autopsy room area functions including; eviscerations and post-evisceration procedures, cleaning and maintaining the autopsy space, and collecting and storing gross tissues collected.

Principle Responsibilities

Assists pathologists in autopsy procedures.Assists with the performance of eviscerations and post-eviscerations procedures.Describes position and condition of internal organs, and condition of body fluids, and any other relevant observations to the pathologist.Coordinates the receiving and releasing of bodies.Labels and stores gross tissues collected during the performance of postmortem examinations.Collect specimen and record information.Weighs organs and records results.Aseptically collects specimens for cultures.Measures body fluids and records results.Transports organs and takes photographs as directed.Prepare body and supplies.Identifies and prepares body prior to beginning autopsy.Prepares instruments and supplies according to autopsy type.Tracks instruments (scissors, hemostats, blades, knives, forceps, etc.) throughout procedure.Maintains a safe clean working area in the morgue.Stocks all necessary supplies including personal protective equipment.Records and maintains all required preventative maintenance records.Cleans and disinfects autopsy area and items used according to current infection control policy.Keeps knives sharp and bone saw clean.Quality.Performs and documents QC; takes appropriate remedial action following established guidelines.Submits QC data for analysis at appropriate times.Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description, and High school diploma or GED preferred0 to 2 years experience in anatomic procedures or2 to 5 years experience in a large hospital Pathology Lab


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a science related field

Pay Range

Pay Range: $32.20 to $44.13 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
