Status: Full-time (Year Round, In-season and off-season)
Location: West Palm Beach, FL
The Washington Nationals Minor League Dietitian is responsible for menu creation and meal catering at the Nationals’ minor league affiliates. The Dietitian will also provide players and coaches with effective strategies to optimize performance and improve well-being. The Dietitian will work across all minor league departments (medical, strength & conditioning and PD leadership team) to create plans that fit players’ goals and needs.
Responsibilities/Food Service:
● Set the vision and strategy for the Minor League Nutrition program, including building an infrastructure to collect and track data related to performance and health, and to design and deliver timely interventions.
● Manage budget and order meals from caterers for home and road games for all domestic affiliates.
● Facilitate catering, meal plans, and nutritional guidance for all minor league affiliates, instructional leagues, and strength camps.
● Responsible for working with Flik staff to run the Minor League kitchen year-round in West Palm Beach. Oversees kitchen budget, setup, menu selection, day-to-day operations and meal timing
● Responsible for ensuring all receipts are submitted with clear explanations in a professional and organized manner to the Accounting Department.
● Work with affiliate staff, including clubhouse managers, to standardize healthy food service practices.
● Oversee and manage the Washington Nationals Minor League Nutrition budget.
● Collaborate with the Major League Head Dietitian to develop and promote a consistent, evidence-based nutrition philosophy throughout the Washington Nationals organization.
● Educate players on food selection and ingredients as well as understanding how to read ingredients on products.
● Provide personalized meal and snack plans, as well as hydration protocols to promote short and long-term health goals.
● Educates in food selection (grocery store tours, food storage) and food preparation.
● Work with individuals who have nutritional obstacles such as allergies, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, gastrointestinal disturbances, eating disorders, etc.
● Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance (intake and expenditure) of players in the context of athletic performance.
● Evaluate the latest trends with nutritional supplements, including natural herbals, for legality, safety, quality, and efficiency. Monitor the use of supplements by each athlete, and promote the NSF Certified for Sport program.
● Collaborate with team physicians, athletic trainers, the FL complex culinary team, and Player Development leadership as appropriate on athlete records.
● Work a non-standard work week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
• Certification as a Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist.
• Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
• Stays knowledgeable with current food, nutrition and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.
• Background in nutrition, food service management is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Compensation:
The projected annual salary for this position is $65,000-$70,000. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
