Dietitian Specialist 3

Job Summary: The Dietitian Specialist 3 demonstrates expertise in completing inpatient and/or outpatient nutritional assessments and reassessments. Works collaboratively with the health care team to implement nutrition interventions and coordinates the nutrition care of the patient. Provides specialized nutrition education to patients and family members. Works as a team with dietitians, dietetic technicians and diet aides to improve performance standards. Provides in-services / lectures to clinical staff, and mentors clinical dietitians and other health care team members to improve performance standards; participates in educating dietetic and medical students; and serves as a consultant for physicians. Assigned duties may include inpatient, outpatient, and/or clinic settings; participation in out-patient group nutrition classes as assigned; fulfillment of appointments when referrals are received. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree or Masters degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Nutrition-related field required.  Three years of clinical nutrition experience required. One year in Pediatrics preferred.  Experience in two different specialty clinics preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Expert knowledge of clinical nutrition in area of specialty. Handling/gripping, speed movements, fine dexterity, writing and speaking skills necessary for the job. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate office equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.

Licensures and Certifications: Certification from Commission on Dietetic registration (RD/RDN) required.  Board Certified Specialty certification in specialty area required. CCS Paneling, required, must be obtained within first year of hire.
