Bloomberg Digital is looking for a digital designer to help lead the art direction of digital special projects at Bloomberg. The ideal candidate has an eye for digital design across platforms, and they’ll be as comfortable art directing an editorial series as they are with hand-coding a story. They should have experience commissioning illustrations or animations for a range of stories, from in-depth investigations to narrative features. This art director should be excited about new technologies, ready to roll with changing platforms, yet grounded in a passion for storytelling. This candidate should be organized, able to juggle short- and long-term projects, and able to deliver designs that supercharge our best stories with clarity and impact. We'll trust you to: Art direct and help build presentations to elevate our best journalism. Create and commission illustrations. Work closely with editors, reporters, and digital producers, building relationships and drawing on the resources of a global newsroom. Work hand-in-hand with other designers across the newsroom. Have an understanding and excitement for financial news, politics and general news. Deliver your best work under pressure in a fast-paced newsroom, balancing multiple projects at a time. You'll need to have: 5-7 years experience as a digital art director, preferably in a newsroom or editorial setting, with strong news judgment and a proven history of delivering work on deadline. Excellent editorial judgment – you’ll know what makes a great story, how to workshop an idea with potential, and when to say no – and experience triaging and delivering work on a deadline in a fast-paced news environment. A thorough understanding of web best practices, including SEO, cross browser testing, and accessibility standards. Visual skills to tell stories through typography, layout, motion, and more, paired with the technical prowess to execute those ideas (HTML, CSS, and Javascript fluency). Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. You'll need to be flexible and calm while problem-solving under deadline. Familiarity with common web publishing technologies and systems, and experience with the Adobe suite and Figma.
