Roles & Responsibilities: MITRE | Australia is at the forefront of advancing national security through Digital Engineering (DE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). As a Project Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of digital transformation in Australia’s defence sector. Key Responsibilities: + Lead small to medium-sized MITRE projects that assist government leaders in implementing and adopting DE/MBSE practices, ensuring a smooth transition to modern engineering approaches. + Develop and direct systems engineering models that provide government customers with the tools and insights needed to make informed decisions about acquisitions, requirements, design, and execution of complex defence programs. + Analyse current DE/MBSE implementations and identify opportunities to improve digital engineering adoption, execution, and sustainment within government agencies. + Apply systems thinking, model-based engineering, and digital engineering methods to solve emerging challenges and advance Australia’s defence capabilities. + Provide thought leadership to develop and mature revolutionary digital engineering solutions, integrating people, processes, and tools to enhance mission engineering effectiveness. + Collaborate with government and industry stakeholders to develop best practices, ensuring that digital transformation efforts align with national security priorities. + Seize the opportunity to influence not only the future of DE/MBSE work but also the trajectory of MITRE | Australia itself. Basic Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, or a related technical discipline. + Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. + Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and practices, including system architecture, system design, and development. + Demonstrated ability to develop, plan, and execute technical work in complex, multi-disciplinary, and ambiguous situations. + Proficiency in Digital Engineering (DE) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and the ability to apply these methodologies to mission challenges. + Familiarity with modelling languages and tools such as SysML/UML, Cameo, MagicDraw, DOORS, Rhapsody, and Magic Systems of Systems Architect. + Experience engaging with multiple levels of government and military leadership, providing technical insights and recommendations. + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply systems engineering principles to complex challenges. + Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. + Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD TOP SECRET clearance. + This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence. Preferred Qualifications: + Master’s or Doctoral degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a relevant technical field. + Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. + Expertise in Mission Engineering, simulation design, and data analytics. + In-depth experience designing, developing, and deploying complex government systems. + Strong background in multi-disciplinary modelling and simulation, including physics-level, engineering-level, and operational-level analysis. + Highly skilled in the application of modern systems engineering and systems-of-systems engineering methods. + Advanced proficiency with MBSE tools such as CATIA, MagicDraw, DOORS, and Rhapsody. + Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in systems engineering, including digital engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications. + Experience collaborating with external partners and industry experts on research and development initiatives. + Possess a DOD TOP SECRET clearance. + Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
