Hourly base pay rate is $28.08 - $42.12/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description

Summary:

The AJC’s mission is to be the most essential and engaging source of news and information for the people of Atlanta, of Georgia and the South.  To achieve that mission, we will transform ourselves from a storied daily newspaper into a modern media company.  Where reporters, product ninjas, video/audio masters, digital gurus and many more are delivering work across diverse creative platforms, industries and borders.

To help us achieve this, we are seeking a producer to join the platforms team in day-to-day execution of our strategy across AJC.com, the AJC mobile app and other platforms.

This person will execute against platform strategies under the guidance of the Platforms Editor and Platforms Lead Producer.  This person will manage our platforms, including crafting headlines, visual packages and more, to ensure that we are presenting our top news to our audience in the best manner possible and driving engagement.

You may work on a variety of projects to help determine how to extend reach and increase engagement, such as test, measure and iterate to build audience and increase engagement.  You will need to have a good understanding of metrics-driven audience measures.  

While this position allows hybrid work, it will be based in metro Atlanta and the editor will be expected to be onsite in our Atlanta office on a regular basis.

In this position you will:

Contribute to and flawlessly deliver on the execution of daily plans for coverage across the main site and mobile apps to help achieve goals of increasing engagement and CTRs

Follow the plan for the daily coverage and make seamless hand-off between shifts

Makes suggestions to Lead and Editor for increasing audience or engagement as well as process improvements

Ensures placement, prioritization and positioning of breaking news (during shift hours) as directed

Always execute seamlessly to showcase our highest-value content and to grow audience engagement within all of our products

Seek out and suggest to leaders innovative packages and new ways of storytelling on our owned and operated platforms

Qualifications:

What we expect you to have to be ready: 

Bachelor’s degree preferably in journalism, product development, or related field

With a BA, at least 2 years of experience as a digital producer in a fast-paced operational role. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and up to 2 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 6 years’ experience in a related field without a degree.

Experience with platforms to drive reader engagement and build brand

Experience in journalism and strong news judgment

Knowledge on the most recent trends in digital media

An ability to take constructive criticism

Passion and belief in local, regional and statewide journalism and its role as a societal change agent

Familiarity and experience in using audience metrics

Understanding of journalism standards and media ethics

Reliable automobile transportation required.

Reliable internet service for remote work environment required.

Ability to work weekend and unusual hours as dictated by news events

Preferred Experience in one or more of the following: 

Newspapers, magazines, media, technology, or related field 

Experience working in a breaking news environment

Social, interactive, or digital media
