This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Design Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role
General Motors Creative Design organization is transforming the future of transportation and mobility solutions. We are seeking a pivotal role in our Sculpting organization. We are looking for a digital sculptor to execute models by developing aesthetic surfaces which meet time and quality requirements. In this role, you will contribute to problem solving by collaborating with partners in design and engineering. You will mentor others in developing models, integrating new technologies, and creating workflows.
What You'll Do:
Proficient in developing high quality surfaces for digital modelsIs accountable for measurable high-quality, timely and cost-effective results, without compromising the integrity, safety and quality of workSupport surface releases which meet Design approval, production engineering, and data release requirementsAdhere to common GM Global Design processes / best practicesExhibits a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership and resolving safety concernsKnowledge of current trends in design, technology, production methods and materialsMentor others in achieving Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) modeling standards and technical abilityAttend appropriate program related meetings as defined by Sculpting LeadershipPerform accurate assessment of surface quality (clay or digital)Adhere to corporate data management processes (TeamCenter, SharePoint, etc.) and communication systems (timekeeping, email, etc.)Ask for and anticipate customer needs; make all business decisions to support those needsAdditional Job DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): You must submit a portfolio in order to be considered for this position. Demonstrates the courage to make the changes that will improve the organization and helps others overcome their resistance to changeAbility to accurately estimate timing requirements for GVDP model executionStrong problem-solving abilityProficient in the use of creative digital sculpting or clay sculpting/milling equipment to develop surfaces that meet design and engineering specificationProficient with sketch interpretation/ability to translate Design input into 3D modelsKnowledgeable of production/manufacturing process (applicable to surface development) i.e.:Die pull, Draft, Graining, Parting Line Gap, Flush, Formability requirements Vehicle packaging / integration requirementsProficient in the use of current office software (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.) with ability to create presentations/communication documentationSeeks opportunities for innovation by executing on latest ideas and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.Ability to lead clay/digital model execution on smaller scope programs if assigned by Sculpting Management teamBachelor’s degree or equivalent industry related experience requiredPORTFOLIO SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
