Dir, Imaging Services - GCMC - Radiology Administration - Full Time

Position Summary: 

Directs and manages all aspects of the Imaging and Cardiology operations and delivery of patient care on a 24‐hours basis with emphasis on strategic planning, marketing and business development, patient, physician, staff satisfaction, profitability and clinical outcomes. Facilitates the planning, organization, implementation and control of the financial and human resources needed for optimal performance of the service line in coordination with the various physicians, clinicians and other management support staff personnel. Encourages, maintains and teaches excellent and quality customer relations. Uses collaborative management techniques including with other directors, managers, physicians, and service line staff to implement new and improve existing processes.

Education, License & Cert: 

Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic, Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine Technology with Bachelor degree in Allied Health or Health related, basic or IT science, or management major required. A graduate degree as a MHA, MBA or MS in Allied Health or Health related, basic or IT science, or management major strongly preferred Registration and/or certification in any Imaging modality including, but not limited to, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and/or Ultrasonography the Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS), and/or Certified by the Certification Board in Nuclear Medicine (CNMT). NY state licensure is also required.

Experience: 

Five years minimum Supervisory experience in Imaging Services. Previous Director experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

 1. Strategic Planning

a) Establish and coordinate the achievement of departmental goals and objectives. 

b) Develop an organizational structure with clearly defined lines of authority and job responsibilities that enable employees to work together toward common objectives. 

c) Integrate imaging services with other hospital departments and the medical staff to establish a multidisciplinary approach to improving patient care. 

d) Develop, justify, lead and manage imaging programs and services to improve patient care.

2. Day‐to‐Day Operations

a) Develop, approve, interpret, and enforce hospital and departmental policies and procedures to achieve service objectives. 

b) Assure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements for imaging operations 

c) Develop and maintain departmental procedure manuals in accordance with NYSDOH,  OSHA and Joint Commission standards.  Insures all maintenance programs and/or procedures for diagnostic equipment meet instrument manufacturer and/or regulatory requirements.  Ensures standardization and appropriate documentation in conjunction with section supervisors for new instrumentation, procedures, control materials and reagents.

d) Develop and maintain a system and program of performance improvement. 

e) Provide support for select committees as necessary, attends managerial meetings as required, provide ongoing communication updates concerning the institution, departmental information and pertinent issues on a regular basis with staff, section supervisors, other managers, and the VP/COO

f) Assure departmental computer system is contemporary, functional and appropriately integrated with other clinical departments within the hospital.

g) Maintains high level of Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiology performance for our customers and inspections by NYSDOH or other regulatory agencies.

h) Maintains the Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiology Performance Improvement program with the assistance of department supervisor(s).

i) Provides interpretive information as necessary on clinically significant results to the ordering physicians in a timely manner.

j) Provides leadership regarding the hospital Radiation Safety Committee and ensures all applicable communication is shared with the hospital Environment of Care Committee.

3. Financial Management

a) Prepare, monitor, and administer the imaging services operations budget. 

b) Prepare and administer the imaging capital equipment budget. Obtains the most effective cost‐pricing for instrumentation and consumable supplies, utilizing established purchasing incentives and contracts where applicable.

c) Seek innovative ways to reduce/contain costs and ensure quality services. 

d) Assure that appropriate charge capture and billing systems for imaging charges are developed and maintained. 

e) Remain current on all changes in CPT, ICD coding, Medicare changes and regulatory changes from NYS DOH.  Assists in the maintenance of the service master and CDM with current codes, prices and updates in test procedures.

f) Provides for departmental and hospital leadership as it pertains to volume growth, customer satisfaction and provider relations in an effort to continue to solicit additional volumes for departmental growth.

4. Personnel Management

a) Establish policies and procedures for recruiting, hiring, orienting, training, supervising, motivating, evaluating, and disciplining staff. 

b) Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.  

c) Assures overall coordination of all Imaging Services and Cardiology procedures.  Maintains necessary staffing levels in all clinical areas to meet the scheduling needs of our customers to insure customer satisfaction. 

d) Utilizing departmental resources, i.e., equipment, employees; supervises, develops, reviews, and directs all clerical, technical, regulatory and service functions/schedules to insure accurate and timely generation of Diagnostic Imaging and Cardiology data.

e) In consult with department lead persons, approve position descriptions and performance standards for all imaging staff.

f) Establish appropriate staffing levels and positions to achieve departmental and hospital objectives.

g) Ensures all departmental competencies are initiated on an annual basis and completed by personnel who are assigned to the imaging department.

h) Ensures all personnel abide by all GCMC and department policies and procedures.  Ensures all staff members follow GCMC, NYS, and Federal guidelines for department operations, compliance, confidentiality and report any issues to the “compliance Hotline”.

Pay range min $39.94/hr max $64.24/hr
