The Director of Artificial Intelligence is responsible for developing and executing on a comprehensive AI strategy, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration in healthcare delivery. This role will drive innovation by exploring emerging AI technologies for applications in healthcare, such as predictive analytics and personalized medicine and will lead the AI Center of Excellence to advance AI initiatives, establish governance policies, and ensure compliance, ethics, and risk management in projects.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy aligned with our organization's healthcare objectives, focusing on enhancing patient care, clinical decision-making, and operational efficiency, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) and ethical standards.
Manage and mentor a team of AI professionals, providing guidance and support to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.
Drive innovation by exploring emerging AI technologies and their potential applications in healthcare, including predictive analytics, personalized medicine, natural language processing (NLP), generative AI, and population health management.
Lead the AI Center of Excellence (CoE) which serves as a centralized hub within Lurie focused on advancing AI initiatives and maximizing their impact across various departments, which includes establishing and refining AI governance policies, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance, ethics, and risk management in AI projects.
Evaluate and manage relationships with AI vendors, service providers, and technology partners to ensure alignment with organizational goals and standards.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative stakeholders to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the impact of AI initiatives on patient outcomes, healthcare costs, and operational performance.
Promote ethical AI practices and principles, such as fairness, transparency, accountability, and privacy, throughout the AI project lifecycle.
The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
7+ years of experience in a leadership role within the AI or ML domain, preferably in a healthcare setting using Epic.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), big data technologies, and cloud native tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, and Microsoft AI Studio.
Proven track record of successfully operationalizing AI and ML solutions, with demonstrated improvements in outcomes, workflows, or operations.
Deep understanding of AI architectures, technologies, and methodologies, including but not limited to deep learning, natural language processing, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), generative AI, medical image analysis, and predictive modeling.
Experience deploying Epic Cognitive Computing models, including integration planning, model development and testing, integration, performance optimization, validation, and compliance, as well as training, monitoring and support preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clinical, technical, and administrative stakeholders.
Experience managing cross-functional teams and driving results in a dynamic healthcare environment, with a focus on patient-centered care and quality improvement.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for leveraging AI to address complex healthcare challenges and improve patient outcomes.

Pay Range
$153,920.00-$253,968.00 SalaryAt Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position . Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
