VCA Canada Animal Hospitals is currently welcoming a Director, Accounting & Reporting to our finance team. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this full-time 12-18 month maternity leave contract position in the VCA Canada Finance team will lead and support a team of accountants focused on the period end close process, preparation of the financial reporting package, balance sheet reconciliation, and reviewing the work of the accounting team. This role involves working closely with other department leaders and the US parent company finance team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Director, Accounting and Reporting will include:

Manage and review period-end close process

Support financial analysis for management reporting

Review period-end account reconciliations & general ledger variance analysis

Management of organizational accounting policies, procedures, and strategies

Oversee and maintain the internal control framework

Identify and implement process enhancements for accounting and reporting

Maintain and review payroll uploads from Workday to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions

Assist the VP Finance in overseeing the operations of the accounting department, including achieving the department's goals and objectives

Assist with the integration of newly acquired companies

Analyze and research technical accounting requirements as needed

Provide continuous coaching and mentoring for the accounting team (6 accountants)

Lead and participate in ad-hoc projects as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Accounting designation (CPA) and 10+ years of accounting and financial reporting experience

Strong knowledge of accounting standards

Experience and proficiency with using the Microsoft Office Suite, and Power BI

Able to tell a story with numbers and visuals for an audience with limited finance experience

Previous experience with ORACLE would be an asset

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

Analytical at a detail and aggregate level

Ability to create, grow and maintain relationships with internal departments and operational leaders

Bilingual French and English is preferred

Prior responsibility for full-cycle accounting, including reporting and trend analysis

Willingness to be hands-on in all aspects of accounting

Highly organized with excellent time-management and prioritization skills, able to handle peak workloads effectively
