Director, Acute Care Professional Services

In collaboration with administrative leadership and the physician department chair, manage the operations of the Department.

1. Clinical Operations: Develop and implement systems to support a well-functioning clinical department. Areas of oversight include: effective use of clinical and business information systems, quality improvement, personnel, space and equipment, departmental policies and procedures, evaluate and establish standards for workflow and performance, and financial management.
2. Planning and development of professional services: The director will provide administrative support in the development and implementation of short- and long-term programmatic, financial, and operational plans. Assess the operational and financial performance of existing and potential new programs and services.
3. Assume lead responsibility for special Clinic-wide or Department-specific projects designated by the Senior Director and/or Department Chair. These projects will include the identification, development and implementation of programs to enhance the delivery of effective and efficient patient care.
4. Work with Nursing leadership to ensure appropriate clinical input and standards are considered in operations and decision making, address clinical licensing and credentialing, assure clinical competencies and appropriate clinical staffing, maximizing ‘top of license’ job responsibilities.
5. Financial Performance: Development of budget and accountability for performance relative to it. Analysis of performance and trends. Understand reimbursement issues and trends, including fee-for-service, pay for performance and accountable care. Work in conjunction with Finance and Patient Financial Services in order to legitimately maximize revenues of department. Assessment of department performance relative to benchmarks
Masters Degree in health care management, business administration, nursing or related field, or Bachelors degree with equivalent additional training and certification or experience. 5 years’ experience in health care administration, preferably in the acute care setting. Demonstrated management and leadership expertise. Ability to relate to and deal effectively with physicians, administrators, support staff and the general public with a high degree of tact and discretion. Project management skills. Excellent oral and writing skills. Proficiency in database management and use of Excel. Strong analytical skills. Experience in quality and process improvement.
