Director, AI Governance

Your Impact

The primary purpose of this role is to work hand in hand with product leaders to increase transparency of products and build guardrails into product solutions to ensure the safety of products aligns with the fast pace of innovation. This includes ensuring AI systems are developed and deployed in a manner that improves the customer experience and meets evolving regulatory standards. The Director, AI Governance partners with cross-functional technology and business leaders, as well as vendors, to establish desired priorities and objectives and ensures the team meets or exceeds expectations at the portfolio level.

What You Will Do

• Establishes and operationalizes a responsible AI Framework that promotes the ethical development, implementation, and use of AI solutions while strictly adhering to the mission of delivering the right products with the best services and value.
• Manages the governance approach and compliance processes that guide the use of AI in products, ensuring the organization meets expected industry standards and the requirements of the evolving regulatory landscape.
• Develops and maintains policies, guidelines, and processes that promote the ethical development and deployment of AI and other advanced technologies.
• Serves as an expert and educator to the broader organization around AI regulation and best practices for the responsible development of products and safe deployment of solutions to end users.
• Drives the development and deployment of related training to technology and business users throughout the organization.
• Keeps abreast of emerging industry trends, public expectations, and the legal and regulatory landscape as it relates to the use of AI solutions.
• Oversees risk management related to AI initiatives; escalates issues to senior management when appropriate; raises business risks associated with AI to senior management in technology and business stakeholders.
• Builds and manages the governance team, helping to support the team's growth and removing obstacles as necessary.
• Ensures the team continuously identifies, assesses, measures and monitors the value of the program and iterates to increase effectiveness.
• Leads a team in support of achieving the company’s mission. Manages performance and fosters an inclusive environment to help associates achieve their potential.

Required Qualifications:
• 10 years of experience serving as a cross-functional leader in a software-focused organization, with substantial exposure to policy and regulatory matters, such as data privacy, AI, or cybersecurity
• 5 years of experience leading technical or project teams, with direct report responsibility
• 5 years of experience directing and/or influencing teams on emerging technologies (preferably AI), and their potential ethical, legal, and safety challenges
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems (CIS), engineering, business administration, cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent work or military experience in lieu of degree)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in computer science, CIS, engineering, business administration, cybersecurity, or related field
• 3 years of experience in technology governance, ethics, compliance, and/or related fields, with deep knowledge of relevant laws and regulations including AI regulations, data privacy laws, and related standards and best practices
• 3 years of experience leading global teams
