Overview of Responsibilities
This position reports directly to the Chief Business Officer and will be focused on driving and executing our in-organic growth strategy aligned with the broader corporate objective of expanding Melinta’s portfolio. Working in close partnership with Melinta’s executive committee, this position will lead the evaluation, due diligence, and deal execution activities across all deal types (M&A, licensing, co-promote, etc.) to broaden the portfolio of Melinta.
Duties and responsibilities
Drive deal execution, including leading due diligence processes and ensuring effective alignment with corporate strategy. Evaluate and shape acquisition, license, and partnership opportunities focused on marketed, commercial-stage products and late-stage development assets, with experience in earlier-stage pipeline assets considered a strong plus. Key aspects include:Valuation and financial diligenceCommercial diligence including market and competitive landscape assessmentsOperational diligence including IP, regulatory, supply chain and manufacturingStructure, negotiate, and finalize complex deals that align with Melinta’s business and corporate development objectives.Lead the development and execution of comprehensive integration plans to ensure seamless operational alignment and the realization of synergies for acquired assetsIdentify relevant strategic priorities for the business and lead buy/partner/invest evaluations to address evolving organizational needs as well as capitalize on future commercial opportunities.Evaluate, prioritize, and manage the deal pipeline to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and effective presentation to the Senior Leadership TeamProvide continual updates and insights regarding the analysis of market evolution, competitive landscape, and alignment to corporate strategyDevelop and manage effective working relationships with cross-functional teams, senior leaders, key internal and external stakeholdersEngage the appropriate resources to support M&A activity on a case-by-case basis
Requirements
Strategic mindset with proven ability to quickly analyze complex data and arrive at a comprehensive understanding of the key drivers, with the ability to frame and articulate this information to senior leadersStrong grasp of finance, accounting, and valuation key concepts such as DCF, LBO, trading and transaction comparablesAbility to run valuation models and understand assess and evaluate the key drivers, risks, and opportunitiesDemonstrated knowledge and capability in deal identification, diligence, negotiation, and closure, including the full lifecycle of M&A activities from the buy-side. Experience overseeing post-deal integration efforts to ensure operational alignment and realization of synergies for acquired assets is also requiredExperience in leading cross-functional teamsA deep understanding of U.S. pharmaceutical and biotech markets is essential, complemented by global exposure, which is considered a valuable assetExceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, acquisition targets, and other key individualsA high level of emotional intelligence and comfort with ambiguityA comfort level working within a smaller, fast-growth organization where resources are limited, self-driven engagement is expected, and collaboration is essential
Education
Bachelor’s degree is required, while an MBA or related Master’s degree is a valuable asset.7–10 years of experience in related areas of deal-making. Likely includes experience in Corporate Development, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Investment Banking, or Strategic Consulting with a top-tier firmAt least 3 years of experience with M&A in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.Experience within the hospital ecosystem from a product supply perspective is a strong advantage
