This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with the hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.

Your role


Reporting to the Executive Director, Business & Rights (French Services), you will lead business relationships associated with acquiring broadcast rights to domestic and foreign programming for all Radio-Canada networks and platforms, as well as with the pre-licensing of productions such as Canadian feature films.


Key responsibilities:


As a business partner to the Programming and Schedule teams, and working closely with Finance:

Devise and implement strategies for acquiring the rights needed to deploy content across all Corporation platforms, consistent with current or future licensing models for domestic and foreign acquisitions as well as for certain pre-licensing agreements (Canadian feature films, etc.).

Plan financial commitments around domestic and foreign acquisitions and pre-licensing agreements under your responsibility.

Lead the negotiation of business conditions for a high volume of projects, covering multiple genres, with suppliers of different backgrounds and sizes, and seek to maintain positive relationships with them.

Support the team in resolving complex issues and finding win-win solutions.

Ensure compliance with the Corporation’s rules of engagement.

Work closely with Legal Services to resolve legal issues or risks.

Work closely with the Executive Director, Business & Rights[JK1] , to align the pre-licensing strategies under your responsibility with original production practices.

Conduct strategic and competitive intelligence on licensing models, current business practices and industry positions and trends in the domestic and international markets. Perform analysis and recommend business positions to leadership.

Recommend actions to optimize operational processes and harmonize business practices, and identify business intelligence needs in close consultation with the Director, Business & Rights, Operations Support.

Manage staff reporting to you (team of four managers).

What you bring?

University degree or equivalent in a relevant field (law, business administration or other relevant field).

Deep knowledge of the domestic and international audiovisual industries and their key players.

Extensive experience in audiovisual content acquisition/distribution and contract negotiation (seven or more years).

In-depth knowledge of contractual terms and conditions applicable to the audiovisual sector, particularly rights-related.

Strong negotiation skills and diplomacy.

 Strong ability to work in a team and cross-functionally with multiple business units and stakeholders.

Strong ability to find solutions and resolve complex issues.

Ability to manage a high volume of projects, work well under pressure and handle new situations.

Excellent business writing skills in English and French.

Relevant team management experience is an asset.

Advanced oral, writing and reading proficiency in English.
