**What you'll be doing**
Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Banking, Wealth and Corporate Controller, the Director, Canadian Banking Controller (the “Controller”) plays a key role in supporting the Canadian banking strategic business units with a specific focus on insurance, deposits, and loan loss provisions. The Controller leads a team of finance professionals to ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial results, which are utilized for statutory, regulatory, subsidiary, and management reporting for these business units. The Controllers is responsible for month-end and quarter-end tasks, including financial analysis and reporting, subsidiary board reporting, and addressing ad hoc queries and investigations. As a trusted advisor and stakeholder on strategic finance projects and business initiatives, the Controller drives operational excellence and continuous improvements while collaborating closely with broader finance team and cross-functional groups.

**How you’ll succeed**
+ **Relationship building** - Establish strong relationships and communication with the Canadian banking lines of business for decision support, accounting guidance, investigative analysis and issues.
+ **Control focused** - Ensure compliance with accounting standards and effective end-to-end financial process controls are executed in your lines of business.
+ **Talent development** - Lead and develop a high-performance controllership team along with oversight of an offshore managed service team.
+ **General ledger ownership** – Ensure accurate and timely month end close of the finance general ledger, clear explanation of business financial results and timely resolution of control deficiencies and/or weaknesses
+ **Operational excellence** – Drive for excellence with continuous improvements that strengthen controls to manage financial reporting risks, streamline finance operational processes and increase productivity across the team
+ **Deliver on purpose** – Affect positive teamwork across finance and cross-functional teams with CIBC purpose focus and behaviours
**Who you are**
+ **You’re a certified professional.** You have current accreditation and good standing in the CPA designation or equivalent, with strong knowledge of IFRS and 10+ years of relevant work experience.
+ **You can demonstrate experience** in accounting leadership roles, ideally within complex financial service organizations **.** In addition, you have excellent communication skills and are able to translate technical guidance into business terms and implications. **It’s an asset** if you have comprehensive knowledge of insurance accounting (IFRS17), deposits and loan loss provision (IFRS 9), along with their systems and processes.
