Summary :The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible for setting strategies and the future direction of clinical services in partnership with the Physician Medical Director at ThedaCare OSP and the Physician Steering Committee. The role is also responsible for all clinical operations involving support departments with direct impact on patient care along with financial management and oversight, clinical quality, compliance with state, and Federal regulations, workforce management and engagement and patient experience. The Director provides leadership and creates a culture that supports the delivery of patient-centered, specialized, evidence-based, cost-effective clinical care across the continuum through an inter-professional approach to treatment, research, education and advocacy. The Director is accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of nursing practice as defined by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing and ThedaCare policy along with responsibility for patient outcomes that meet high quality care standards through collaborative practice with members of the care team.

** Day to day operations over different departments within the facility but the main department being surgery. The ideal candidate would have a knowledge base with surgery and a background in operations to support**

Job Description – Key Accountabilities:

1. Provides strategic planning, program development, labor management and overall operational administration of the hospital.

2. Effectively directs team members in a manner consistent with ThedaCare policies and values. Ensures the recruitment and retention of competent team members to meet the needs of the business operations of the department.

3. Oversees and ensures accuracy of time and attendance and payroll practices.

4. In collaboration with Vice President, ThedaCare Medical Center, Orthopedics, Spine and Pain, the Director participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of the clinical strategic plan and other business plans that impact professional clinical practice. Participates with the physician medical director in establishing vision and strategic direction. Supports and establishes goals that connect the vision back to the hospital and primary care, and effectively translates strategy into a clear vision.

5. Develops an environment that is supportive of shared decision making, shared governance, and an engaged workforce, and demonstrates personal and professional accountability in the development of high functioning teams.

6. Supports research and innovation to promote the advancement of the nursing profession. Uses evidence-based data to influence safety innovations and improve quality outcomes.

7. Is responsible for maintaining a communication system that interfaces with the medical staff

and other leaders and departments to ensure quality patient care. Impacts change through credible influence and negotiation with other senior leaders.

8. Anticipates challenges or barriers, proactively seeks solutions, and acts promptly and decisively to transform ideas into improved outcomes and sustainable results. Leads and manages change at ThedaCare, measures the impact of changes to help quantify the effect of improvement, and develops new tools to assist in performance monitoring.

9. Leads and supports ongoing activities that promote safe practices, safe environments, best outcomes, and a superior patient experience. Develops quality improvement processes that include goals and defined performance measurements, monitors hospital performance against the appropriate national bench‐ mark, and promotes patient-centered care.

10. Manages financial and budgetary performance, including explanation and justification of actual vs. budget variations of core cost centers. Directs the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget for the areas of responsibility.

11. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and influences policy, procedures, and protocols that support top decile clinical performance in partnership with physician medical director, and provides advice and counsel for policies affecting other departments.

12. Implements strategies to promote professional development of team members and enhance the delivery of clinical care and the professional growth of team members. Coaches and mentors others.

13. Is responsible for the coordination of activities and ensures continual compliance with regulatory standards (i.e., The Joint Commission and CMS).

14. Demonstrates, anticipates and proactively manages risks to prevent crises.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing

• Eight years of proven progressive responsibility in a leadership position with strong preference for surgery experience and leadership particularly in orthopedics, spine and pain service lines

• Current Wisconsin RN Licensure

• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance

• Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while per‐

forming job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Ability to move throughout hospital departments and floors on a daily basis

• Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments

• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock

• Occasional high noise level in work environment

• Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents

• Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time

• Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another;

little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed

• Occasional contact with aggressive and combative patients
