Job Description:

Reporting to the Head of Regulatory Compliance, Assurance and Privacy - Asia, this role will be part of the Asia regional Compliance team primarily responsible for regulatory compliance, compliance report drafting, and driving compliance risk strategy and governance in the region. This role will work closely with stakeholders from Local Office, Regional Office, Enterprise, and other Control Functions to support the overall compliance objectives in Sun Life Asia.

Major accountabilities

Manage the drafting and review process of all Asia internal and external compliance reporting, regulatory filings and support the escalation of compliance issues to senior management

Drive an end-to-end Regulatory Compliance Management program in accordance with the Sun Life Compliance Risk Management Framework, in partnership with Business Unit Compliance Officers

Lead and produce compliance risk management strategy, oversight and governance

Act as regional Compliance representative for cross-functional teams’ committees and support business/functional unit projects or initiatives.

Help identify technology and build governance on digital directives including GenAI and other digital solutions

Support general compliance operational matters and regional/global compliance initiatives

Specialized knowledge

Financial services laws, rules and regulations as they pertain to global financial institutions, including knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for jurisdictions under Asia’s coverage. Awareness of Canadian regulatory requirements is a plus.Industry experience with sound comprehension of relevant life insurance and wealth management laws, regulations, best practices and guidelinesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with good practical judgmentVery strong drafting abilities to understand and manage different types of reporting, and be able to thoroughly analyze data, identify trends and patterns and present to senior stakeholdersExperience working in a matrixed environment and influencing all levels of stakeholders to ensure successful management of regulatory compliance risks.Demonstrated interpersonal skills and experience in handling different cultures across Asia and North America highly regarded.Forward looking with vision and welcome changesKeen interest in driving a high performance cultureFlexible to work travels as necessaryGood experience in using computer applications. Working knowledge on regulatory compliance platform Archer is a plus.

Problem solving

Able to thoroughly analyze current and upcoming key regulatory changes, identify and understand compliance issues, perform gap and impact analysis, support remediation planning to issues closure, and report findings and present risks to Compliance and Business stakeholders from management lensSupport different business and control functions’ initiatives, and be able to represent RO Compliance to call out compliance concerns and provide meaningful advisory/solutionsRecognize areas within RO/local Compliance that can benefit from Digital and find e-solutions to enhance Compliance processes to drive efficiency and effective management

Education and experience

Over 10 years of compliance management experience in local or regional leadership roles preferredDemonstrated expert level of understanding life insurance products and their relevant regulatory compliance principles.Familiar with insurance compliance risks including market conduct, fraud, financial crime and privacy in AsiaOutstanding compliance reporting, drafting and analytic skills. Able to identify, analyze and present risks and solutions to senior managementExcellent track records in planning and executing regional compliance risk strategies and governance.Experience in senior stakeholders management and ability to operate in a fast changing and growth environment.Proven leadership ability, thinker and driver.Aptitude and interest to lead and transform through technology and digital solutions.

Communication scope

Frequent communications with other members of Asia RO Compliance and all other regional functions to plan, drive and execute assigned tasks. Constant dialogues and working relationships with local Compliance teams to ensure regional/global initiatives and requests are appropriately managed and rolled-out. Regular interactions are necessary also with Group Compliance for reporting and planning purposes.
