Director, Diagnostic Imaging Business Operations
**MISSION STATEMENT** The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. **SUMMARY** The Director of Business Operations is responsible for enabling clinical excellence by bringing business acumen and operational execution to the diagnostic operations. Reporting to the Executive Director of Business Operations and working closely with the VP of Diagnostic Operations, the DI executive and clinical team, this leadership role is responsible for implementing dynamic strategies to optimize operational effectiveness across various dimensions, including location, modality, staffing, equipment availability, and patient preferences. By leveraging data analytics for strategic foresight and fostering continuous improvement, the Director ensures the division is poised for growth and operational excellence. In addition, knowledge of data analytics and Data business experience. **JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES** **Operations Management** Implement dynamic strategies for managing access and capacity, considering factors such as location, modality, staffing, equipment availability, supplies, and patient preferences, aligned with clinical recommendations to optimize operational effectiveness. 1. Analyze historical and current operations data to forecast growth, identify opportunities and challenges, and develop plans to capitalize on prospects while mitigating operational risks. 2. Develop and refine operational metrics in response to changes in upstream referring and service lines, ensuring these metrics are deeply integrated with DI operations for effective management. 3. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and team cohesion among staff, aligning team efforts with the division's strategic objectives. 4. Stay current on DI technologies, trends, and lead development of these opportunities to inform or refine divisional operations. 5. Collaborate with external resources like vendors and consulting firms to source new opportunities and lead implementation of innovative technologies that help drive productivity, monitor quality, and improve outcomes across the department to achieve a more streamlined patient care journey. 6. Support in contract negotiation, agreements, timelines with vendors. 7. Regularly communicate outcomes to executive team. 8. Provide and support short- and long-term strategic plans and expansion for the Division. 9. Design and maintain management reports and models on the operations of the division to optimize patient flow, scheduling and manage capacity 10. Responsible for providing division specific data analysis and capacity utilization metrics to executive team. 11. Participates in committees and working groups to understand complex operational issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions. 12. Develops, implements, and manages effective administrative processes, policies, and procedures to ensure operational and quality outcomes. 13. Facilitate and lead operational discussions with Faculty, staff, and other stakeholders across both internal and external to the division. 14. Responds to and investigates complaints/concerns and communicates identified issues to appropriate stakeholders. **Leadership/Administrative** 1. Proactively assess operational volumes to identify staffing requirements, ensure efficacy of recruitment by implementing tools to facilitate alignment with culture and mission. Implement a structured orientation and performance management framework to support staff career progression. 2. Collaborate closely with Clinical Directors to identify and capitalize on educational and training opportunities for the team, utilizing a broad spectrum of industry resources and professional associations to augment skill sets. Forge partnerships across various stakeholders within the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) division, the wider institution, and external industry resources to establish a comprehensive, continuous training and application resource tailored to each modality. This resource will be underpinned by ongoing key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics. 3. Collaborate with Clinical Directors and Division Leaders to guarantee that all team members comply with institutional policies and divisional operational procedures. This includes adherence to mandatory training, license expiration tracking, ACR certification verifications, contractor worker requirements for access maintenance, and other health mandates necessitating tracking and validation. The aim is to maintain comprehensive compliance with all regulatory and institutional standards. 4. Act as a key advisor to divisional and institutional leaders on strategic initiatives, leveraging deep operational insights to guide decision-making and strategic planning. 5. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and team cohesion among staff, aligning team efforts with the division's strategic objectives. **Financial Management** 1. Lead business proposals, work with finance team to develop department-specific proformas, implementation of new service lines and other operational initiatives. 2. Lead development and implementation of reconciliation procedures for operational business tasks. Develops and monitors productivity and performance standards. 3.Identify and implement cost reduction and expense control opportunities within the division. 4. Responsible for providing financial support documentation/data recognizing financial transactions that are in compliance with the UTMDACCC Monitoring Plan during internal audits. 5. Collaborate closely with Financial, Clinical, and Business Executive Directors to manage the division's budget for each modality, offering recommendations and plans for implementation at the modality level to not only meet but exceed budgetary expectations. 6. Concentrate on managing denials and executing reconciliation processes to maintain financial stability and ensure alignment between financial and operational objectives. 7. Spearhead the development of innovation reports that detail the current year's outcomes, including explanations for variances, upstream impacts, staffing, and material sourcing, to inform forecasting and budget planning for the upcoming year. **Quality and Process Improvement** 1. In collaboration with the Office of Healthcare Engineering, oversee process improvement initiatives for administrative, operational, and financial activities that minimize redundancy, increase productivity, and improve overall effectiveness and efficiency for the Division. 2. Spearhead quality improvement initiatives, utilizing data-driven approaches to streamline processes and enhance service delivery. 3. Develop and implement models and tools in place to manage downtime, emergencies, and overall patient volumes for seamless care. 4. Facilitate Lean & Six Sigma training for division staff when required. **Facilities and Space Planning** 1. Manage and improve existing capacity utilization and downtime capacity for the betterment of patient volume, quality, and safety. 2. Work with clinical and operations managers to manage equipment and assist in conducting necessary upgrades. Manage expense budget for equipment. 3. .Participate in facilities construction, renovations, and space planning activities. 4. Coordinates and participates in annual space programming/space planning survey. 5. Ensure facilities have appropriate space, privacy, and resources to meet regulatory guidelines while functioning efficiently to meet productivity goals and patient care needs. Other duties as assigned **REQUIREMENTS** **Education Required:** Bachelor's Degree in Business or Healthcare related field **Preferred Education:** Master's Degree Business or Healthcare related field. **Certification Required:** None **Preferred Certification:** LEAN or Six Sigma **Experience Required:** Seven years of operations experience in a healthcare environment. **Preferred Experience:** Five years of operations experience in a healthcare environment with a Master's Degree. Also prefer 4 - 5 years experience in leadership and process improvement. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
