Join our team as the Director of EHS Regulatory for Water and Wastewater Treatment Design! You will be at the forefront of providing the latest guidance and direction for the daily operations and compliance of water and wastewater treatment systems at all Smithfield US operations. Your role will involve developing cutting-edge standard operating procedures, guidelines, and compliance documents to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations. Additionally, you will provide crucial operator training and guidance to optimize system functionality and provide direction during challenging upset conditions.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety and Compliance with Federal Regulations and Corporate Requirements

Assists Senior EHS Directors, in establishing and maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state and local state EHS regulations as well as the Smithfield SIPS and other corporate requirements.

Assist Regional EHS Managers to maintain a safe working environment and ensure the uniform application of the EHS programs to ensure application of best practices, and to promote and maintain compliance with applicable regulatory agencies.

Maintains ISO certifications and conformance to the standards.

Utilizes metrics to identify trends and deficiencies in performance.

Communicates regulatory updates to the EHS team.

Corporate Program Development and Administration

Assist in developing and implementing corporate policy, programs and training materials.

Ensure effective implementation of corporate programs at assigned facilities.

Participate in corporate training and business meetings as appropriate.

Internal / External Audits

Ensure facilities are prepared for corporate audits and are addressing and closing out open audit findings.

Lead and serve on corporate audit teams as assigned.

Other activities as directed.

Act as a resource for Regional EHS Managers and facilities to develop effective and innovative solutions to ensure a safe workplace and develop a proactive safety culture.

Will lead regulatory compliance disputes including OSHA, EPA, Chemical Safety Board and other regulatory and government agencies during inspections, citation, and penalty process.  Including coordination with internal and external legal.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 10 + years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

5+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.

Bilingual skills preferred but not required: speak, read, write, address groups, individuals, conduct investigations, counseling, training, mentoring using language other than English – as applicable to the Business Unit.

Good decision maker and ability to perform in stressful situations.

Excellent communication skills – must be able to relate to all levels of the organization.

Detail oriented.

Excellent knowledge of OSHA regulations, and workers’ compensation processes.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, regulators, and the general public.

Knowledge of Spreadsheets and Word Processing and software support systems.

Travel 50% of time.
