Job Summary

The Director of Engineering will be responsible for developing, leading, and executing the facility engineering strategy across the enterprise. This includes expanding engineering competencies, building the team, and driving evolution and productivity across all elements associated with Cresco’s infrastructure (e.g., horticultural lighting, environmental controls, fertigation, HVAC, emergency systems, and building management systems).

This role is tasked with creating and executing these strategies in full alignment with the Operations and Operational Strategy teams, which include the sub-functions of cultivation, manufacturing, production, pack-out operations, and supply chain. Responsibilities include managing, optimizing, and improving the performance of current systems and solutions supporting these functions, as well as scoping, sourcing, selecting, and commissioning new solutions. Additionally, this leader will be a key contributor to and work closely with the Construction team on new facility developments throughout the design, bid, and build phases of projects. The Engineering team is also responsible for leading facility retrofits by utilizing cross-functional teams for scoping and design to update facilities as needed.

This is a technical, people-leadership role with multiple direct and indirect reporting relationships, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Construction and Engineering.

Core Job Duties 

Build and lead a centralized function of facility engineering and maintenance expertise to drive standardization in the ongoing maintenance, systems and mechanical operations of Cresco’s production facilities. Provide thought leadership, oversight, and direction on complex projects and strategies with cross-functional teams. Assess and implement improvements to existing SOPs and drive standardization of best practices across the Cresco network of production facilities through the development and use of KPIs. Drive synergy between the Engineering and Construction teams with assistance and guidance from the Director of Construction. Represent Cresco Labs as a technical engineering resource for production facility design elements and approve construction drawings, including Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Equipment plans. Review third-party proposals and agreements with Cresco Sourcing to drive holistic vendor choices. Manage vendors / essential third parties and systems support providers. Develop and enhance reporting capabilities for Construction & Engineering leadership aimed at the executive-level audience, and when necessary, local & state community leadership. Maintain a physical and virtual presence at all Cresco production facilities on a regular basis. Understand health and safety standards and local regulatory requirements to ensure all processes comply, providing thorough training to all employees on these topics as needed. Ensure that employee safety and health, product safety, product quality, and sustainability are appropriately engineered into every project. Identify training opportunities for employees on procedures and equipment relevant to safety standards and industry trends. Identify and implement preventative maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance. Execute continuous improvement opportunities with other business functions to obtain optimal production and output. Utilize data to detect efficiency gaps and identify impactful long-term solutions. Develop and plan capital expenditures for infrastructure updates required as facilities age. Participate in relevant trade and industry events, bringing back leading-edge practices to the Cresco team for consideration. Ability to travel as needed to sites across the U.S. (estimated 25%).

Required Experience, Education and Skills  

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil preferred), Construction, or a related field preferred. In lieu of an Engineering degree in the mentioned fields, experienced individuals with relevant roles in facilities engineering will be considered. 10+ years of experience in an engineering function. 5+ years of management of senior talent. Cannabis experience preferred. Experience developing, reviewing, redlining, and approving electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics. Advanced MS Office skills. CAD Modeling (e.g., AutoCAD / SolidWorks) preferred. Knowledge of pharmaceutical guidelines (GMP, GDP, ASTM). Excellent organizational, interpersonal, quantitative, writing, and communication skills.

In accordance with any local and state compensation laws, the compensation listed is the current estimated range for the position. Final offer details and future compensation may be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to, geographic location, market compensation data, skills, experience, and other relevant factors. Pay Range

$140,000 - $160,000 USD
