Director, Engineering - NA SSO

The Director of Engineering for North America (NA) Services and Solutions (SSO) is responsible for leading a team of Project Engineers, Service Center Engineers, and Engineering Specialists to provide quick technical support for Flowserve’s pumps aftermarket business (upgrades, repairs, parts and onsite services).  In addition, this role is responsible for developing the execution strategies and implementation tactics required to provide engineering support for the overall goals and objectives of the NA SSO business unit.  The Engineering Director reports directly to the Director/GM – NA SSO and acts as a strategic partner to develop the overall NA SSO strategies and tactics required to achieve business objectives. 

This role will report in matrix to the Global Services and Solutions Engineering Director to ensure that the North America Engineering team remains fully aligned with teams in Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Europe.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Build and maintain a high level of engineering performance and technical knowledge through mentoring/coaching, course training, and challenging on-the-job assignments.Drive key performance metrics for Year Over Year improvement in Safety, Quality, Operational Excellence, and Customer Experience.Partner with Sales and Commercial Operations to provide technical expertise to support business proposals for Flowserve’s installed pump base and/or new installations.Conduct managerial tasks, including recruiting and hiring new engineers, conducting performance appraisals, responding to poor performance and conduct, and reducing attrition.Work with other aftermarket engineers to investigate pump problems relating to design, manufacturing quality, or misuse. Record findings and implement improvements or fixes.Advise and guide manufacturing and vendors through deviations and non-conformances.Ensure that engineering data is maintained in the governance of enterprise systems/tools.Support the identification and implementation of advanced manufacturing and inspection tools and equipment.Seek out new and innovative ways to improve the overall repair, upgrade, and manufacturing process while improving Customer Experience.

Requirements:

At least 3+ years of leadership/managerial experienceWillingness to travel up to 30% (majority of travel will be within Canada/USA with some international travel)

Proven experience in successfully driving a high-performance culture and ensuring that performance is actively differentiated and managed within the team.Ability to communicate effectively with the full range of internal stakeholders— from associates to leadership— and ensures that programs, processes, and initiatives are communicated in a clear and effective manner.Capable of quickly establishing credibility, influencing constituencies, and persuading professionals at all levels.Excellent analytical and strategic skills. Good business judgment and problem-solving skills with solid economic, industry, and competitive landscape insight.Have knowledge of the design, materials, pump applications/systems, and operation of rotating equipmentExperience in building organizations that effectively adapt and develop world-class practices from inside or outside the industry to create a powerful competitive advantage.B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical is preferred)10+ years of relevant manufacturing experience and 10+ years of managerial experience, preferably in the aftermarket environmentProven experience building plans to support a rapidly changing business environment and close scrutiny of resources.Prior experience working the fast-paced and unpredictable environment around services.Strong drive to make things happen and a strong “can do” attitudeAbility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing work environmentExperience working in a lean environment and leading lean activitiesBasic understanding of business principles including bookings, revenue recognition, order margins, cost overhead, and operating income

Skills and Capabilities

Experience building cross-functional, diverse, and responsive teamsExperience with rotating equipment including detailed product and technical knowledge, such as sizing/selection, application, and strong knowledge of parts and componentsKnowledge of service environment activities including DCI (Disassembly, Clean, and Inspect), machining, assembly, test, and field service for rotating equipment.Possess financial acumen to discuss financial principles in relation to technical decisionsTrack record of project management:  work scope and responsibilities, schedules, resources, corrective actions, and reportingExperience in working to established processes and developing new processesAbility to influence-decision makers in the organizationExperience with various standards used across industry (ASTM, ASME, API, ISO, etc.)Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing work environmentExcellent leadership skills and demonstrated ability to teach, coach and persuadeStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, in addition to interpersonal, teamwork skillsStrong written and oral communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak and communicate effectively with various audiences at the site level.
