The Director, Estate and Gift Planning (OEGP) in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), assists in the execution of annual plans of action designed to capture philanthropic support for the University of Miami, primarily for the Academy, through planned and other gifts from alumni, and non-alumni individuals. The incumbent reports to the Managing Executive Director of OEGP and is based on the Coral Gables campus.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                 

1. Assists in the development of comprehensive strategic prospecting, marketing, and stewardship plans for OEGP, assigned units, and relevant affiliated organization, which outlines measurable objectives and strategies for all significant activity during the year.

2. Identifies and researches prospective donors and develops and executes cultivation and solicitation strategies for them. Works closely with relevant and assigned gift officers to train them on planned giving, as well as assisting them by researching prospective donors, developing and implementing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and action items, creating donor proposals, and preparing reports. 

3. Develops and manages an active portfolio of his or her own prospects to cultivate and solicit planned gifts and directly raises planned gift and other commitments from that portfolio in addition to those prospects he or she is working in partnership with other gift officers.

4. Coordinates and personally participates in one-on-one cultivation visits and gift solicitations and works to close planned gifts. Implements stewardship strategies for planned gift and other donors.

5. Works with attorneys and/or other advisors of prospective and current donors to provide information about planned giving options, utilization of gifts, or University information to ensure the receipt of gifts.

6. Drafts documents such as gift agreements, gift annuity agreements, and other pertinent documentation for the completion of a gift.

7. Assists in the development of programs, seminars, trainings, presentations, and other information for internal and external stakeholders to promote and explain planned giving.

8. Assists the OEGP marketing team in the coordination, development, and execution of planned giving marketing and promotional materials and mailings for OEGP, assigned units, and relevant affiliated organizations and coordinates and responds to inquiries received from the same.

9. Assists in the preparation, organization, and management of files, reports, research, meetings, presentations, and such.

10. Performs such other responsibilities and special projects as needed or as assigned to support OEGP, assigned units, DAR, or University initiatives.

11. Adheres to University and DAR policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS                    

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field is required

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required, with a preference for experience in fundraising, particularly planned giving. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

• Knowledge of business and management principles.

• Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

• Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

• Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

• Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
