Director, External Science & Vendor Strategy Lead, Safety Sciences.

The role can be based at any of our R&D sites in Gothenburg (Sweden), Gaithersburg MD (DC metro area, US), Boston MA (US), Cambridge (UK) or Barcelona (Spain), it is part of the Safety Sciences Leadership Team and reports directly to the VP, Global Head of Safety Sciences.
 

Job description:

Design, implement and execute a Safety Sciences external science and vendor strategy that enhances innovation, flexibility, productivity and speed of delivery by synergizing internal capabilities with external opportunities.

Responsible for scouting external opportunities and leading partnerships with academic, biotech, regulatory, CRO and peer-pharma partners to drive strategic priorities for Safety Sciences

Works across disciplines in a complex matrix environment, with stakeholders across R&D to drive scientific innovation and operational agility, impacting Safety Sciences excellence across therapeutic areas and modalities.

As part of the Safety Sciences Leadership Team, contributes to the Safety Sciences strategy to deliver safe medicines to patients.

Combines an awareness of the external science, vendor landscape and industry trends with anticipation of future portfolio needs to prioritize novel or expand existing external opportunities.

Contributes to internal and external scientific reputation and delivers productivity gains.

Qualifications that apply to the role:

Strong academic background with PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Biology, Pharmacology, Toxicology), with high quality publications.

Track record of scientific innovation, leading development and application of cutting-edge, novel science as well as identifying and driving value from collaborations with academia, biotech, pharma industry and CRO partners.

Robust understanding of drug discovery and development (ideally, but not essentially, with experience in drug safety).

Strong matrix leadership, communication and presentation skills, ability to work across scientific disciplines and bridge organizational boundaries.

Experience with identifying, establishing and delivering impact from collaborations.

Ability to handle multiple projects and / or tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment and interpret and integrate complex datasets to draw conclusions that drive vendor relationship strategy.

Affinity with working across geographies and cultures.

US ONLY FOR PAY TRANSPARENCY

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from 178,540.80 - 267,811.20 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
