Position Summary/Description:
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, is seeking exceptional candidates for a tenure track/tenured, fixed-term, or variable track faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidate will be appointed as the Director of the Francis Owen Blood Research Laboratory ( FOBRL ), a large animal research facility. The Director will lead their own research program as well as help develop and foster collaborations with other investigators whose research depends on these large animal models. The mission of FOBRL is to reduce human and animal suffering from bleeding, thrombosis, and atherosclerosis via the study of unique genetically determined animal models of disease. Work at FOBRL has helped to accelerate translatable discovery science in coagulation and hemostasis research and helped to produce the scientific evidence for the safe and efficacious introduction of novel therapeutics into clinical practice for dogs and humans. Much of the work at FOBRL has been continuously funded by NIH grants and contracts since 1947. In addition to enabling novel translational research, FOBRL represents an excellent training resource for graduate students and veterinarian trainees.
Appointment and rank in the department will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications. There are opportunities for teaching in the School of Medicine and the Graduate School. Joint or secondary department appointments, depending on the research interests of the applicant, are possible.
The department has a Ph.D. graduate student training program and pathology residency and fellowship programs. The UNC Division of Comparative Medicine ( DCM ) faculty are also members of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. DCM faculty and staff play active roles in the successful on-going research activities at FOBRL .
