Job Description
 

We are seeking a patient-centric Director focused on HIV Treatment Pipeline and Cure to join our Global Medical Affairs team. This individual will contribute to creation and execution of asset development and commercialization strategies, serve as the Medical Affairs product lead across cross-functional teams, and co-create our evidence generation strategy. This position will be based in Foster City.


Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Lead Medical Affairs activities and initiatives pertaining to HIV treatment pipeline, with a focus on long-acting injectable combinations and HIV cure

Collaborate with Clinical Development, Global Strategic Marketing, Global Value and Access, Medical Affairs Research, affiliate Medical Affairs teams, and other cross-functional teams across varied initiatives including strategic plan development and implementation, evidence generation, scientific resource development, conference activities, and internal training

Serve as the Global Medical Affairs representative on Global Development Teams, Program Strategy Teams, Commercialization Teams and other cross-functional working groups

Collaborate to develop the Global Plan of Action and ensure alignment of team activities

Support Gilead HIV cross-functional data generation efforts, including co-leading or serving as core member of data generation strategy and execution teams

Provide medical and scientific input on Phase 4 Research, promotional materials, and health economics and Global Value and Access initiatives

Attend major global scientific conferences and coordinate Medical Affairs activities at conferences

Plan and execute Global HIV Medical Affairs Advisory Programs

Serve as Medical Affairs lead on select scientific issues/topics using expertise to develop global scientific messages, inform strategy and drive strategic resource development

Provide training within the HIV therapeutic area on relevant topics for Medical Affairs and cross-functional personnel

Manage projects to completion, anticipating obstacles and difficulties that may arise, resolving them in collaborative manner

Specific Knowledge, Education, and Experience Requirements

Advanced scientific degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD or equivalent), with 8+ years of clinical and/or research experience in the HIV therapeutic area or master’s and 10 years’ experience, or bachelors and 12 years’ experience

Prior Global or large affiliate experience pharmaceutical industry (3-5 years), ideally within Medical Affairs

Product launch experience preferred

History of establishing trusted relationships with external stakeholders on the development and execution of Medical Affairs strategies

Ability to develop deep and credible collaborations with partners in Clinical Development, Global Strategic Marketing, Global Value and Access, Regulatory and affiliate teams

Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to identify and interpret complex issues. Opportunistic thinker with strong judgement and analytical mindset

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with varied audiences, cross-functional partners and executives

Ability to synthesize findings and clearly articulate implications from multiple sources of information and to formulate strong, actionable recommendations

Organized, attentive to detail and able to meet timelines in a fast-paced environment

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize workload

Must be able to work with a level of autonomy and independence

Ability to travel to domestic and international conferences and internal meetings (15% expected)

The salary range for this position is: $237,660.00 - $307,560.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
