Title and Summary

Director, Government Affairs

Overview:
Mastercard seeks to hire a Director, Government Affairs based in Washington, DC. This person will implement Mastercard’s advocacy strategy, coordinate across internal and industry stakeholders, and engage in direct lobbying of policymakers in the US including Congress and the Administration.


Role:
•\tEngage in direct advocacy with US policymakers to advance policy priorities and mitigate legislative risk.
•\tAnticipate significant policy and political trends and develop strategies to navigate the environment.
•\tCoordinate strategy, identify deliverables, track results, and report progress to management across a wide range of policy issues.
•\tCommunicate regularly with internal business line owners to ensure awareness of potential risks and benefits of various legislative initiatives.
•\tProvide senior management with guidance and analysis on key policy issues to enable informed business decisions.
•\tManage relevant trade associations, coalitions, and industry organizations to advance Mastercard’s policy priorities.
•\tBuild meaningful relationships with members of Congress, key staff, and other government officials.


All About You:
•\tSignificant experience in government affairs and policy, government, or a corporate environment.
•\tHigh political acumen with a thorough understanding of the decision-making processes of executive and legislative branches of government.
•\tExperience working with elected officials, community leaders, industry associations, and corporate executives.
•\tA proven record of accomplishment in advancing and promoting important policy issues.
•\tDemonstrated ability to communicate with executives and external audiences across complicated policy matters and complex political environments.
•\tStrong relationships with policymakers within the US Government.

•\tProven track record of proactively developing and implementing effective legislative strategies and a passion for advocacy.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
