Job Description:
Role Summary
Reporting to the AVP Governance and Portfolio Management, the Director, Group Governance and Risk Management is a key contributor to the success of the Canada Group Benefits (GB) and Group Retirement Services (GRS) business units. This role will establish and lead a team in delivering governance support to both businesses, with an initial focus on supporting the sponsor sales, contracting, and due diligence processes. The mandate also includes oversight of privacy programs related to the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
What will you do?
Establish the framework, structure and processes for a new team of governance managers supporting GB and GRS. Develop and implement resource allocation and work prioritization plans; process flows and documentation; and approval channels and escalations paths.
Participate in client due diligence processes, e.g. meetings with clients or auditors
Partner with cross-functional leaders to secure additional resource expertise when needed
Implement standardized processes to complete ongoing regulatory questionnaires
Oversee processes to support annual SOC2 certification requirements
Provide guidance on governance content in sales support materials and custom agreements
Monitor the external environment, e.g. legislative changes, to understand and assess potential impact to the business
Lead a team of individual contributors by providing ongoing coaching and feedback; prioritizing work and allocating resources; and removing roadblocks
Drive the evolution of the team’s mandate and processes to meet additional business needs and close gaps. Identify opportunities, assess business priorities and resource capacity, and propose solutions.
What you need to succeed?
University degree or equivalent
10+ years relevant industry experience
Knowledge of GB and GRS products and services, the regulatory environment and emerging issues impacting the business
Working knowledge of operational risk management frameworks and processes
Excellent partnership and collaboration skills; ability to manage through influence
Self-starter, with the proven ability to build and establish new teams and processes
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to think clearly and respond effectively under pressure
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present effectively to executives, clients, and external audiences
Ability to excel in a rapidly changing environment
Bilingual (French) is a strong asset
CEBS designation is a strong asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
