Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$144,000 - $250,800

The Bioproduct Research and Development (BR&D) organization delivers new medicines to patients through the development and commercialization of insulins, peptides, oligonucleotides, monoclonal antibodies, novel therapeutic proteins, and gene therapy systems. BR&D is a multidisciplinary group with deep technical expertise that works collaboratively with our discovery and manufacturing colleagues. Located in Indianapolis, IN, scientists have full access to Lilly’s deep pharmaceutical development expertise and engineering capabilities.

Position Summary:

In this role, we are seeking experienced, innovative, and motivated candidates to apply their strong technical foundation in analytical sciences, experience in pharmaceutical development, and leadership skills. Candidates will provide strategic and organizational leadership to deliver analytical data to development teams through in-sourced analytical partners to enable clinical trials, regulatory submissions, and new product commercialization. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate across multidisciplinary BR&D development teams, identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives between Lilly scientists and in-sourced partners working in world class research laboratories for pharmaceutical development.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership for BR&D in-sourced analytical contractors.Show active management over the relationship and improve collaboration between BR&D scientists and in-sourced analytical contractors.Identify areas for continuous improvement in existing laboratory workflows to increase lab capability, efficiency, performance, and reduce turn-around-time.Implement effective resource modeling, capacity planning, and forecasting tools.Remove technical barriers between teams to enable efficient communication and timely issue resolution.Evaluate and apply scientific judgement to guide the scope of work completed through in-sourced analytical contractors.Establish real-time performance metrics, feedback tools, and increase accountability.Be a champion and thought leader for laboratory safety within the organization. Seek out opportunities for local process improvements to ensure safety within laboratory spaces and support safety initiatives within BR&D. Participate in all laboratory safety inspections and partner with HSE colleagues.

Additional Preferences:

Thorough understanding of development of pharmaceutical drug substance and drug product development.Experience with management of laboratory staff.Demonstrated ability to navigate complex interpersonal relationships.Strong leadership attributes including good communication skills (written and verbal) and a strong sense of personal accountability.Demonstrated ability to drive organizational improvement efforts and achieve goals in collaborative environments.Demonstrated success in persuasion, influence, and negotiation skills.Demonstrated ability to work and accomplish results independently and through others.Demonstrated examples of process improvement and implementation.Seek to understand, demonstrates humility, and shows curiosity for learning.Ability to prioritize multiple activities and manage ambiguity.

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. in analytical chemistry or bioanalytical chemistry, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry after earning degree or alternatively a B.S. in chemistry with 15+ years (or M.S. with 10+ years) of experience it the pharmaceutical industry.Relevant foundational experiences in technical leadership and management
