Purpose

 

The Director of Information Technology Risk Transformation establishes and manages the strategic direction and oversight of the IT Risk Management programs globally, collaborating with Information Security and Cybersecurity partners for effective risk management protocols, framework, processes, procedures and monitoring and ensuring end to end 360 understanding of controls, KPI’s and KRI’s in place that are monitored for effectiveness, and reported. The function is evolving as the Bank seeks to improve IT risk management understanding, documentation, and practices.  
 


What You’ll Do 

 

Act as primary liaison with Functions in respect of intersections and impacts between their respective policies and programs and EDP/ITRT mandate responsibilities and policies.

Provide leadership support to the VP by conducting thorough analysis and drafting recommendations or position papers on strategic and operational issues impacting Enterprise Data Protection/Information Technology Risk Transformation. Promotes a consistent approach to EDP/ITRT’s management programs across all Scotiabank businesses globally.

Develop and sustain key strategic alliances, partnerships, and third-party relationships to effectively meet stakeholders’ needs by working collaboratively with peers and Risk heads, participating in meetings that will enhance EDP/ITRT strategic initiatives and project(s) completion.  Effectively liaise with cross-functional and cross-jurisdictional business partners to ensure the timely execution and completion of the initiatives or specific deliverables; and provide advice and counsel to partners and stakeholders on processes, risks, controls and emerging considerations.

Play a key role in the ongoing business strategy planning and execution processes of Enterprise Data Protection/Information Technology Risk Transformation. Creates, reviews and revises, as necessary, policies and frameworks, while promoting and developing consistency within enterprise and operational risk programs, as appropriate.  Prepare executive presentations for executives and partners, as required.

Participate in working groups and forums, which will include various other key stakeholders, ensuring that coverage is comprehensive and consistent with established standards and that ITRT issues are appropriately addressed on a timely basis. Leads or provides project management support and expertise to the VP and their management team, including leading strategic projects that are multi-jurisdictional in scope and/or involve multi-disciplinary project team.

Provide issue management oversight and support for high priority Regulatory, Internal Audit and GIMS Issues.

Provide critical decision-making information about the state of the program and ongoing progress of key regulatory deliverables.

Establish and own EDP/ITRT frameworks, standards, directives, and taxonomies to effectively manage related risks enabling flexibility and adaptation for changes in systems, technologies, applications, and emerging risks.  

Establish and monitor end to end business and operations key performance and risk indicators and execute appropriate management reporting to partners and stakeholders. Provide analysis and insights to the business.

Support T&O’s ongoing management of operational, regulatory and compliance risks under the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, Operational Risk Management Policy and the Risk Culture and Conduct Risk Management Framework and other enterprise frameworks and policies as applicable. 

Facilitate and contribute to the preparation of management reporting relating to the responsibilities within the role

Develop and maintain standardized processes, templates and guidance documentation related to the activities of the role as needed, striving for streamlining and efficiency

Provide advice and guidance and, develop and deliver training as needed to educate staff that are engaged in supporting or executing on aspects of the role.

Drive effective stakeholder management and alignment through interactions with internal T&O management and team. 

Build and maintain strong relationships with key contacts within T&O and the Business Units to support effective management and delivery of goals for the role.

Ensure unresolved issues or risks are escalated to the appropriate Executive Sponsors in a timely manner. 

Maintain awareness of regulatory developments, expectations and industry standards related to Information Technology risks globally.

Ensure that the team maintains record keeping of key documentation.

Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

What You’ll Bring 

 

Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or related fields.

Solid understanding of technology and processes 

Strong familiarity and experience with bank regulatory compliance programs and/or enterprise/operational risk programs

Prior exposure to a control environment in risk management, compliance, or audit

Working knowledge of business environment supported by a strong understanding of policy and regulations

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Strong analytical and process design skills

People management experience and leadership skills
