Job Description

Partner closely with the Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel (VP, CIP) in executing Skyworks’ global efforts to generate, identify and protect intellectual property that is essential to meeting the company’s business objectives.  Responsible for collaborating and executing on Skyworks’ overall intellectual property strategy, as well as (1) collaborating in the development and maintenance of company intellectual property protections and processes, including patent applications, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, licensing and research agreements, publications, including harvesting, pre-patent filing review, providing legal advice to the company concerning the patent viability of its inventions and the advisability of filing patent applications covering the company’s inventions; (2) partnering in the assessment of intellectual property risks and technology clearance issues and opinions associated with the development of Skyworks products;  (3) evaluating third party IP portfolios, products and positions, including the validity of competitors’ patents; (4) working as part of a team ensuring that all company intellectual property is protected, including implementation of cyber security measures; (5) collaborating in IP litigation claims review, providing other general legal advice and representing the company in matters relating to intellectual property law and ancillary transactional matters, as requested.

Partner with the VP, CIP in the assessment and mitigation of intellectual property risks and technology clearance issues associated with the entry of Skyworks into new key markets / product areas by participating in freedom-to-operate analysis, patent landscape analysis, licensing profiles and litigation risk profiles of relevant established competitors in such markets. Assist in the implementation and management of product specific infringement risk clearance analysis and active risk mitigation strategies regarding any future potential IP infringement matters involving third party IP portfolios of competitors. 
As part of the IP Legal Team, will provide guidance on the effective and practical implementation and improvement of cyber-security protections and protocols surrounding key intellectual property assets in conjunction with the Skyworks Information Technology (IT) group to ensure proper safeguards are implemented and maintained so that key intellectual property assets are monitored, protected and controlled.  

Supports M&A IP due diligence efforts and analysis relating to M&A activities pertaining to the acquisition of target companies and select IP portfolios as requested.

Work with Skyworks Standards Representatives to ensure we identify and protect intellectual property that is contributed to any Standards Organizations along with managing the contributions and compliance with each Standards Organization IPR Policy (including contribution and timeline requirements)  

Work closely with other members of the Skyworks legal team on a variety of IP state of the art / competitive analysis projects with respect to related prosecution and technology assessment matters.

Assist in providing standardized IP process and programs along with a variety of standardized operating legal templates and formalized procedures to various Skyworks departments (HR, Legal and Business Units), along with on-going training and education to Skyworks business units and technical personnel to facilitate, harvest and protect developed IP/Patents for Skyworks.

Qualifications JD and 10-15+ years of experience required Ideally Electrical Engineering undergraduate degree (or substantive practical experience in EE / Semiconductor technology) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work within defined processes and procedures Strong ability to perform research, analyze and communicate the results Must be able to draft, review and negotiate legal documents Must have excellent organizational skills, high level of accuracy and attention to detail

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $163,800 - $324,900 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others. Employees are eligible to participate in an incentive plan, and certain roles are also eligible for additional awards, including recognition and stock.
