Director, IT Infrastructure - ( 2500002I ) **Description** **SALARY** $155,000 - $185,000 **POSITION SUMMARY** Oversees the organization's IT infrastructure strategy, implementation, and management. Leads a team of managers to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of all IT systems & support including servers, networks, data centers, telecommunications, mobile device management, client computing, end user support, and communications maintenance & engineering. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in IT infrastructure management in both IT and operational field technologies, along with excellent leadership and communication skills to drive our technology initiatives forward. **Qualifications** **PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES** + Department Management + Datacenter Systems Management: Oversees the planning, implementation, and maintenance of datacenter systems including servers, virtualization, active directory, M365, storage, cloud services, and data centers. + Telecommunications & Mobile Device Management: Oversees the design, deployment, and optimization of telecommunications systems and mobile device management including cell phones and tablets, ensuring reliability and performance. + Client Computing & End User Support: Oversees the client computing environment and provide strategic direction for end-user support services to enhance user experience and productivity. + Communications Maintenance & Engineering: Oversees the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s communication systems and physical infrastructure. + Network: Oversees the organization’s network infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, security, and performance including cellular infrastructure, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, and VPN + Team Leadership: Leads, mentors, and develops a high-performing infrastructure team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. + Strategic Leadership: Develops and executes a comprehensive infrastructure strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and supports business operations. + Budget & Vendor Management: Develops and manages the infrastructure budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while meeting organizational needs. Collaborates with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure quality service delivery and negotiate contracts to optimize costs. + Security Oversight: Ensures that all infrastructure components adhere to security best practices and compliance requirements, implementing measures to protect organizational data and systems. + Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develops and maintains disaster recovery plans and business continuity strategies to ensure infrastructure resilience. + Performance Monitoring: Implements metrics and monitoring systems to assess the performance of infrastructure components and ensure optimal functionality. + Hires, trains, develops, monitors, and evaluates staff. Reviews and recommends personnel actions for approval. + Performs related duties as assigned. **MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES** Reporting to this position are the following jobs: Job Title + Senior Manager, Telecommunications + Senior Manager, Network + Senior Manager, Client Computing & End User Support + Senior Manager, IT Datacenter & Server Operations + Manager, Communication Systems Maintenance + SDI Account Manager **CHALLENGES** + Keeping abreast of new and emerging technology and industry trends. + Maintaining very old network and telecommunications infrastructure in parts while upgrading to new technology. + Government procurement and funding regulations. + Motivating highly qualified and sought after technical staff to stay with a mission focused organization. **EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS** + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Business or a combination of education relating to this position. + Ten (10) years of experience in IT infrastructure management, with at least five (5) years in a leadership role. + Experience with budget management, contract and budget administration, and vendor negotiations and management. + Experience with large scale migration and upgrade projects that may include network, datacenter, application and end user technologies. + Telecommunications experience working with a telco or utility provider preferred. + Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, AWS/Azure Certifications, etc.) are a plus. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** + Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery. + Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES** + Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. + Strong problem-solving skills. + Ability to make sound decisions under pressure. + Ability to manage teams who architect, design, install, maintain and support network and telecommunications technology and/or construction. + Working knowledge of server and cloud infrastructure, networking, security, and data center operations. + Detailed knowledge of industry best practices and emerging technologies in IT infrastructure. + Detailed knowledge of ITIL systems and best practices. **WORKING CONDITIONS** + General office environment. + Occasional travel to support technical and project needs. + Supervise field visits which may include exposure to hazardous environments such as moving trains and other vehicles, electrically energized conductors, construction noise, dust, and weather conditions. + May be required to work various extended hours (including nights, weekends, and holidays) in order to meet project deadlines or respond to CTA emergencies. + Must be available to respond to calls or email inquiries outside of regular work hours. + This position is considered a "C-List" position under the “Revolving Door” prohibition within the State Officials and Employees Act (5 ILCS 430/5-45), which contains a number of post-employment restrictions CTA employees in C-list designated positions must follow. Among other requirements listed in this statute, CTA employees in C-list designated positions are required to follow State notification procedures to the Office of the Executive Inspector General prior to acceptance of any applicable non-State employment or may be fined significant penalties. **EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED** + Personal computer, related software (Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel), and other applications required by the department. + Standard office equipment. **Additional Details:** Employees and/or union members will be given priority consideration in the hiring process, per the applicable labor contracts.
