We are seeking a transformational executive to lead the Residential Engineering Lab in Tyler, Texas. Trane Residential HVAC offers a broad range of energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; dehumidifying and air cleaning products.

The Director, Labs is responsible for overall leadership of the Engineering Test Labs located in Tyler, Texas; leading Engineering and Technician teams that support multiple Product Growth Teams (PGTs) in verifying design requirements and advancing new technologies. The Laboratories test all of Trane Residential HVAC systems’ products from infancy to end-of-life. Key responsibilities include:  safety, financial management, project management, delivery performance, staffing, productivity, performance measurements, continuous improvement, test cycle-time, test quality, new test facility design/construction, and talent development.

Where is the work:

Hybrid:  This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week.  

 What you will do:

Long-term management and day-to-day operation of Residential HVAC Engineering Lab: includes strategic, budget, quality, safety and continuous improvement responsibilitiesDrive safety awareness and initiatives to maintain world class safety recordManage multi-million dollar expense and capital budgets with monthly reviews and forecastsIncrease employee engagement, leverage talents and skills of all lab employees and nurture a winning culture.Strategically align lab capabilities with future product needs and requirements.Strategically position the lab to meet engineering testing requirements (short and long-term)Work with the engineering customers to forecast/schedule test facility demand to ensure the New Product Introductions (NPI) are delivered on timeManage strategy, facilities and safety of the model shop to ensure prototypes support testing needsDrive talent development for 50+ associates including quarterly performance and development reviewsFoster a quality system aimed at improving the Lab’s ability to consistently produce valid results.Conduct annual human resources plan to ensure we have the right organization and people to deliver optimal performanceTrack and report out overall RS lab performance in the areas of cycle time reduction, test quality/first pass yield, and delivery performanceChampion and lead projects to drive continuous improvement targeting performance measurementsDeliver accurate lab test results to assist engineers in meeting 99/95 reliability and product performance goalsDevelop and document standard lab test procedures

What you will bring:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related technical discipline) and at least 10 years’ experience in a Laboratory or new product development role is required.Master’s degree in engineering or business is preferred.
