Purpose Oversee revenue, quality, timeliness, and budgets of all Planning projects and oversee the department to ensure performance is aligned with company standards. Responsibilities Leadership and Direction Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on highly complex assignments. Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance. Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff and deliverables. At the Operational and Company Level Responsible for business development activities for current and prospective clients. Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements. Act as advisor to landscape architecture team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Keep current on industry trends and evaluate, propose, and develop strategic initiatives that will improve methods, reduce costs, and ensure quality. Do the Work Oversee Planning projects in the department to ensure that the work is executed on time and on budget and in accordance with the client’s requirements and within company policies and procedures. Organize and manage the department’s day-to-day operations. Regularly review department billings for trends and compliance with annual revenue goals. Review and approve project proposals and schedules. Hire, train, retain, and develop a staff of landscape architects and project managers; provide work assignments and review performance to ensure the quality of work and an efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff. Identify ways to perform at a higher level in areas including, but not limited to, client service, communication, design, and production. Directly interact with clients’ representatives to negotiate work plans, administer contract terms and conditions, resolve field issues, and provide management system reporting as needed by clients. Champion cross-selling of services and disciplines. Ensure all site work is high quality and per drawings/specs. Lead and promote a culture of safe work conditions and hold team to meeting safety standards. Manage contractor and subcontractor relationships. Basic understanding of financial reports and metrics. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred. Fifteen or more (15+) years of experience in Urban Planning to include project management, supervision, and client relationships. AICP Certification preferred. High-level skills in entitlement, conceptual planning, master planning, and preparation of land development regulations. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Professional level knowledge of development business practices, including permitting, zoning, and comprehensive planning. Demonstrated experience in successfully managing the financial, marketing, human resources, and operational aspects of a department. Physical Demands and Working Environment Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic. Mobility around an office environment. Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Partially outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards. Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business. Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds. Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
