About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated and strategically minded Director, Legal to lead legal support for our fast-evolving suite of apps and services, many of which stand at the forefront of the AI-revolution, as well as the international expansion of our flagship global platform designed to spark new connections across cultures and borders (Azar). This individual will play a critical leadership role in helping shape legal strategy, advising senior stakeholders, and leading a small but high-performing legal team in Korea. The ideal candidate is a confident, independent operator with sound judgment, a “get to yes”mindset, possesses strong commercial instincts, product counseling experience, with the ability to drive cross-functional positive outcomes in a rapidly-evolving, high-growth environment.
Key responsiblities Serve as the lead legal advisor for MG Asia and S. Korea based initiatives and international expansion, providing pragmatic, solutions-oriented counsel to business and functional stakeholders. Act as the primary legal partner to key stakeholders: the Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Commercial business teams, with the ability to advocate for business priorities while upholding legal and regulatory integrity. Identify, anticipate, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks associated with the launch of new features and technologies, and into new markets, especially given the evolving tech landscape and ambiguous operating environments. Draft, negotiate, and oversee complex marketing, commercial, and product-related contracts, policies, and governance frameworks. Work autonomously -- leading end-to-end legal execution, including preparing regulatory responses, product legal reviews, and internal policy rollouts—with only peripheral need for senior / legal leadership escalation. Mentor and manage junior legal team members, ensuring consistency, professional growth, and high standards of output.Champion a collaborative and solutions-driven legal culture, fostering trust with internal non-legal (e.g. product / marketing) teams, while constructively challenging decisions where needed to safeguard legal and reputational interests.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES A law degree from an accredited law program and admission to the Bar in South Korea and/or US, or other notable Commonwealth jurisdictions. Minimum 6-8 years’ PQE, with top law firm and prior in-house legal department experience; prior tech-company experience is strongly preferred, prior MNC and/or portfolio company experience is a bonus. Business level Korean and business level English (both written and spoken). Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously, exercising sound judgment in a lean legal function. Familiarity with the demands of a small legal team, able to lead and inspire junior lawyers, adept at guiding them on drafting, negotiating, writing and research skills. Able to manage competing expectations from various stakeholders (ranging from internal demands within the Korean leadership org to responsible & pre-emptive reporting to global HQ), while maintaining prioritisation and execution discipline in a fast-paced environment. Be effective at working in a cross-functional, multinational team, welcoming diversity and supporting inclusivity. Experience with general consumer protection, data protection, IP, digital media, internet industry laws are strongly preferred.
