Who will you be working with?
The Director, Legal – Labor Relations is part of Wabtec’s global Labor & Employment Team and will serve as a strategic partner to Wabtec’s Human Resources Team and other business partners. You will provide support and guidance on a variety of labor matters to promote a positive employee experience and ensure legal compliance with US labor law. This role will report to the Chief Labor & Employment Counsel and will collaborate with other senior leaders across the organization.
How will you make a difference?
You will be the primary point of contact for all labor relations matters in the United States, including first chair in some labor negotiations, union organizing drives, union campaigns, petitions, collective bargaining, decertification, labor arbitration and administrative charges. You will also monitor the employee climate to identify workforce opportunities and trends and recommend proactive solutions. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing labor relations strategies and programs that support Wabtec’s business objectives. You will work in conjunction with the HR team on the development, administration, interpretation and application of labor and employment policies and programs. You will also have the opportunity to conduct due diligence for potential mergers and acquisitions as well as supporting integration processes. This role will also prepare materials for and conduct training for management and other stakeholders on labor relations topics.

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school10+ years legal experience, including practicing and litigating at either a law firm or a company (can be a combination)Significant experience with union organizing, union decertification, union negotiations, NLRB charges, grievances and arbitrationsExperience as first chair in collective bargaining negotiations and strategic thinker for proposals and strategies for collective bargaining sessionsDemonstration of management and leadership development and training initiatives in employee relations and site assessmentsStrong knowledge and understanding of the National Labor Relations Act, including related case law and current trendsThe ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with employees, managers, and other internal and external stakeholders across varying levels and rolesExperience managing and completing complex projectsStrong leadership skills and capabilityAbility to direct and personally conduct objective and timely investigations of highly confidential and sensitive personnel mattersOutstanding written and verbal communication skills, creative problem solving, and ability to facilitate discussion with and present to senior executive leadership on labor relations mattersAptitude to work collaborativelyAbility to handle stress in a positive matterA commitment to teamwork, collaboration, integrity and professionalismAbility to travel in the USA, approximately 40%Information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com.
