Director, Map Data

We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to join our team as the Director of Map Data. In this role, you will drive the vision, acquisition, integration, and utilization of geospatial data to enhance the capabilities and impact of our overall mapping software solutions. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the availability, accuracy, and strategic alignment of map data with our business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy Development:

Define and execute a comprehensive strategy for acquiring, managing, and optimizing geospatial data to support our software products and services.

Identify emerging trends in map data, geospatial technologies, and data utilization to ensure our offerings remain industry-leading.

Data Acquisition and Partnerships:

Establish and manage partnerships with data providers, government agencies, and private organizations to secure high-quality datasets.

Negotiate licensing agreements and ensure compliance with data usage policies and regulations.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

Lead a team of data scientists, analysts, and GIS specialists to curate, process, and maintain map data assets.

Work closely with product, engineering, and customer success teams to align data strategies with user needs and product roadmaps.

Collaborate with routing and geocoding product and engineering teams to sustain and enhance our commercial vehicle solutions.

Quality Assurance and Data Governance:

Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of geospatial data.

Develop and enforce data governance policies, including standards for metadata, data security, and ethical usage.

Customer and Market Insights:

Collaborate with the marketing and sales teams to understand customer needs and translate them into data-driven solutions.

Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings as a thought leader in geospatial data.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s or advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

10+ years in geospatial data management, GIS software, or related fields.

Proven leadership experience with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Technical Expertise:

Deep knowledge of geospatial data formats, standards (e.g., GeoJSON, shapefiles), and software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).

Experience with data pipelines, ETL processes, and cloud-based geospatial platforms.

Skills:

Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
