Director, Maternal Fetal Medicine

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is seeking to expand current Maternal Fetal Medicine services with the addition of a full-time Maternal Fetal Medicine Director.  Kings County Hospital, a Level III Maternal Level of Care safety-net hospital, specializes in the diagnosis and management of obstetric, medical, surgical, and fetal complications of pregnancy.  Offering advanced pregnancy ultrasound, consultations, genetic testing and counseling, fetal testing and support for high-risk pregnancies.  The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and trains their medical students and OBGYN residents.

 

Kings County Hospital is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.

Opportunity Details:

Leads and expands MFM services (high risk prenatal care, including genetic counseling, advanced imaging, and management obstetric complications), ensuring evidence-based, patient-centered care that is aligned with best practices and national guidelines. Oversees the development and implementation of protocols to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes, focusing on reducing disparities in care for marginalized populations. Provides expert consultation and direct care for high-risk obstetric patients, including prenatal diagnosis, fetal therapy, and complex maternal conditions. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including neonatology, anesthesiology, cardiology, social services, and other medical subspecialists to enhance perinatal care coordination. Serves as a champion for quality improvement initiatives, including maternal safety bundles and perinatal risk reduction programs. Promotes a culture of safety through open communication and debriefing with multidisciplinary team members. Supervises and mentors OBGYN residents and students, fostering a culture of continuous learning. Develops and delivers educational programs, including grand rounds, simulation training, and conferences focused on high-risk obstetrics. Supports faculty development and continuing medical education efforts in maternal fetal medicine. Leads and participates in clinical research initiatives, particularly those addressing disparities in maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Helps to secure funding for and oversee studies related to perinatal health, high-risk pregnancy interventions, and population health strategies. Collaborates with the Bellevue Regional Perinatal Center to provide consultation and management of transfers from and to Kings County Hospital Center. 60% clinical time, including perinatal ultrasound interpretation, antepartum consultation, and ambulatory high-risk obstetric care. 40% non-clinical time including research, quality improvement, and administrative work. Call coverage is shared with other maternal fetal medicine physicians in the division.
